i was wondering if this is at all possible on a 1g? i know most replys will be you can do anything with enough $$$$$$ but realistically is it posible and how much will it take to do this

your talking about the orange machine . yes i saw that at the dsm shootout just to see that car in person is scary

Of course, it's very possible but it'll cost you a good amount of cash. Buschur's car is yellow, so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Buschur also converted a 1G to rwd which he campaigned until he got the 2g built. That car is now owned by Bruce Kwartler, painted a beautiful blue and was at the shootout this year.
Anyway, it is possible, but if you have less talent and or money than Dave Buschur, it's not going to happen!!

It may not be the best way to go about it but you could just get a Welded center diff, or a spool from TRE and then just tear apart your front drive shafts (remove the outer protion so you just have the splines going into the tranny to hold the fluid in) and boom your RWD. This route would be the cheapest, use all stock parts -the center diff (tranny, mounts ect.) It probly isn't the best way and if your making a lot of power the rear axles would probly snap. (3 bolt and 4 bolt)

Buschur doesnt own that car anymore, I know who owns it his name is Bruce he was supposed to race it 2 weeks ago but it rained. That car isnt close to being stock it has a tube frame front end, motor is mounted in the longitude position, it uses a GM Powerglide auto trans, and one hell of a turbo, takes awhile to spool at the line but sounds like a jet engine when it does.

ya i saw that car when it was at NED on dsm day. that thing was nasty! it sat at the green light and spooled and jetted of like you wouldnt believe!

if you really want a AWD->RWD DSM

just get a welded center diff and throw away your front axles. then start busting rear half shafts untill you get a starion rear end put in.

I was wonderin how much would it cost to make a 2g fwd gst to a rwd gst...?? and has anyone done it? besides the pro draggers

I don't know of any rwd dsm street car. You're looking at a lot of money... custom tranny, custom driveshaft, custom rear end brackets/support, custom engine mounting, new exhaust... the list goes on and on.

If you want RWD, get a starion, and drop in a 4g63... otherwise, slap slap some slicks on the FWD, and have fun :)

RWD is definately best for just about any kind of racing (rally excluded) so the idea is rational, however if you even have to ask what it entails, you will likely not be able to pull it off. You would have to completely change the rear suspension around, re-locate the gas tank or use a fuel cell, turn the motor around to face north/south, build custom motor mounts, find a tranny that will line up reasonably with the factory shifter location, probably have to build a custom tunnel under the front half of the car, modify the firewall and relocate existing firewall items, etc etc etc etc. Let me put it to you another way. On a stock 2G, you'd prolly spend well over 5 grand and still have a high 14/low 15 second car when you are done. Now, was that really worth it?

Regards,

if you want a rwd i can help. my gsx(awd) only spins the back tires, will not spin the front under any conditions, and yes the front drive axles are in. you can have it if you put my other trany in for me,thats the only cetch. PUT THE OTHER ONE IN MY CAR

is there anyone out there that knows what i would have to do to convert fwd to rwd in a 2g?? please, please, get back to me on this topic. i want to get started a.s.a.p.:dsm:

Why? You do realize that the cost defeats the purpose do you not? I'd say on the conservative side of 15-20K, as not only with the rear half need to be rebuilt to accept a rear drive platform, custom rear suspension, re-orient the drivetrain, custom tranny, etc, etc, etc. Something tells me you have no where near the finances to accomplish this feat.

There have been only a couple of people who performed such conversion. It was always done in a professional chassis shops, costing ~$20k.

This was the first one:

David Buschur took FWD 1G and turned it into RWD back in '98. It is now owned by one of my friends.
