worth turbo'n an automatic?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Autos run almost 18 second quarter miles. Turbo it and most run about low 15s/high 14's. It's a 3 second drop which is pretty significant. You won't be lightning fast but it will be definately faster.

Do you like your car? Why do you currently own an auto? What are your goals? Do you corner?

yea, turboing your car is great! even in an auto, it makes it 100 percent a totally different car.

besides, once your a/t blows up, swap it out for a manual.

in the meantime just install a shift kit and a tranny cooler and your golden.

· Is the shift kit worth it?
Once more, everyone that has installed one agrees, for the price it is quite worth it.

· Do i NEED a trans cooler?
it can never hurt. Cooler is almost always better, and cooler trans fluid temperatures will prolong the life of your A604.

· Do I need a tranny temp. gauge?
It helps. it's nice to know the fluid temperature, and to get used to its normal range of variation. This way, you will be able to see if something is going wrong - hotter than normal generally means you might wish to inspect the trans.

· Will i be able to beat a 5 speed with all this stuff?
There's only one way to find out. Go do it!

all the info you need should be in that post and those links. the shift kit will make prolong the life of you tranny, as its more preventative maintenance replacing the seals and adding tensioner springs. you have the option of making your shifts a little sharper and quicker, unlike the *granny* style shifts the a604 currently does.

the cooler does just what its supposed to. keeps your trans. fluid cool, and cool = good. heat is your trannys worst nightmare.

I was on the phone with a guy from Hahn Racecraft the other day and he said they were running the auto tranny in their rs and it was running a 9.3 in the 1/4. Because of this i think it would be just fineto run the automatic.

thats a good point. i dunno if its stock or how ofter its rebuilt. but i do know when it was running 11,s with the 5 speed it was completley stock and they never had to reduild it. i know the car was dailydriven for qoite some time also.

that doesnt mean the same could be done with the auto but theres only one way to find out. and would u really plan on running 9's?

It is a lot harder then you would think to just swap a manual for an automatic, unless your an experienced mechanic or are willing to spend the cash for a shop to do it, its not such a great idea.
