HI EVERYONE. I JUST GOT MY HANDS ON A 95 TALON NT I LOVE THIS CAR MORE THAN MY CIVIC LOL. I HAVE BEEN READING FOR DAYS ON THIS SITE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER THE RIGHT SETUP FOR ME. SO THATS WHY IM POSTING THIS THREAD TO GET SOME OPINIONS. FIRST I JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. MY GOAL IS TO BUILD A 400-500 WHP STREET-1/4 TRACK . I WILL GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP. THANK YOU

DSM FOR LIFE :thumb:

NOW IM GONNA GO DO SOME MORE READING

Congrats! If you did grab a N/T model, you should start considering buying or building a turbo kit for it. Some guys do that to their N/Ts and get amazing results. You got any pics of the car?

thanks i got one pic on my profile. building a turbo kit is one of my very first steps. but im still doin some research tryin to make a "perfect" kit .

Congrats on your first DSM.

PS: First thing you should do it buy a Repair Manual for it. Best investment ever. :)

DSM aint' a family car, should've been a 2-seater. I can't even fit in my backseat in the 1G and my buddy's 2G sucks to ride in the back. And I'm a little guy. Congrats, I love the 2G's too :]

'Course, I have the ol' Chevy too for packing everyone in :]

Congrats on the new buy! Have fun with it and hope you can meet your goals.

thanks everyone and i bought the repair manuel it is the best investment i made. i have a buddy with a gst and i was tryin to get his motor, but then i also see alot of 420a w/turbo that put out some pretty whp. so i might stick wit the 420a and rebuild.

oh just wondering what is the average cost of a 4g63t?

once again thank you!

I thought there was a rule about "sell it and get a 4g63t"? Anyway, Do a little bit of research on 2gnt.com or here about putting a 4g63t in your nt and tell me what is a bigger waste of money. The 420a is just more delicate than 4g. I have both and I love both, the 420a can make some good power esp. since there has been some major break throughs with MSnS and new intake manifolds that are starting to be developed for them. I say if you want something different then build your 420a and boost it! There is nothing better than a guy with a GST/X that hears you blow off or sees the front mount and starts to talk to you about the car then you pop the hood and its a 420. The 4g63t is easier to make power with but then again most of the fun(at least to me) is building it and seeing how far you have come since you started modding it. The 420a is the bastard child to the DSM family and can get major respect when set up properly but it takes time and money. Either way you made a good choice by getting in the DSM family, congrates on the car:dsm::talon:

Agreed, especially since this is the 420A tech section which you guys aren't even supposed to be posting in unless you are helping something. Reported? God damn I didn't even get this much bull when I turbo'd my 97 saturn. You want to talk about a hard car to tune with no aftermarket support.

2gnt like Slo2gen said has an ungodly amount of information for the 420A, the only thing is I hate their website layout. Definitely check it out.

Basically the difference between the 4g63 stock and a 420A stock is the 4g63 has a stronger bottom end so you can make more power cheaper, but throw in some forged goodies, and you'll have the same building block to go from. It'd cost you probably another 1000-1500 or more to get a 4g63 car depending on condition and such + you have turbo sports car insurance to pay. Once you have done all the mods to your car ( building a block that can handle boost, turbo kit, cams if u feel like it) the amount of power you get out of it will really come down to tuning. Standalone is your best bet but when the time comes its up to you to choose what you want. Basically the stock bottom end in good condition will hold about 8psi for the average tuner. There have people that have boosted more on the stock bottom end, but again it really comes down to tuning so definitely start reading up on tuning.

There is plenty of potential in this motor, but it's because of people like you see posted above that we progress slower. I don't know which I dislike more Honda guys or ignorant 4g guys.

I still don't understand why cost keeps coming into play. Are you guys poor? If so you REALLY picked the wrong hobby to be in. Cars are a money pit they depreciate as soon as you buy them ( in almost all cases) and are a horrible investment to put money into. Obviously it takes money to make power.

I'm glad your enjoying your new car. Prepare to get some heat from the guys with the turbo models because they have a different motor. If you didn't yet know, your car has a dual overhead cam motor that is also shared with certain models of the dodge neon. Turbo eclipses/talons come with a motor that can also be found in japanese lancer evolutions. So, essentially, a lot of people will give you a hard time.

Aside from that, I am speaking from experience. I owned a 420a eclipse for 5 years and a 4g63t talon for 3 now. I'm not here to tell you to sell your car, I loved my 420a eclipse. I'm going to tell you to research the difference between the two cars from a netural standpoint before you start setting goals for yourself. It can save you a lot of greif. If you have any questions about what you have found, post it up and wait for someone to respond that has a decent reputation. Not some guy who thinks your have a sohc motor.

OP, don't use all caps in you're posts; it looks like you're shouting. Also, congratulations on your first DSM. By all means, use this forum as a resource to learn about and explore your car. If you come up with a unique question that can't be found in a search, make a new thread about it.

To everyone else, if you don't own, or have never owned a 420A, do not post. We don't need misinformation or opinions littering the technical forums.

I have some numbers for you to chew on.

The 420a standard bore is 3.445in.

The 4g63 standard bore is 3.350in:
.020 over bore 3.370 in;
.040 over bore 3.390 in;
.060 over bore 3.410 in (still .035in smaller than a stock 420a bore).

The 4g63 would have to over bore .095 in to match the bore of the 420a. As we all know, bigger bores make more power easier.

I hope this can be edited and stickied so this site can see facts instead of nooblets bullcrap.:beatentodeath:

i paid 500 bucks. and thanks for all the info guys its really helping me out and i think that i am leanin towards the 420a

thank you ! i love dsm :talon:

Keep in mind that if you were not leaning towards the 420a, you would have to buy another car. The 4g63 is not swappable into a 2g. Do i mean you can't do it?.... well.. yeah basically.

Anyhow, if anyone has anything off topic to say, it is better to be done off this thread. Lets keep things on topic.

the 420a is an awesome engine and has a hell of alot of potneital. in turboed form it is capable of over 600whp and naturally aspirated its capable of over 200 whp. dont even look back at the 4g63 cars because your engine has as much potential as theres (4g63 owners of course). im not biased towards the 420a either i like both motors and both have tons of potential........... i think the only thing a 4g63 owner "can" have over us is the fact they they can have all wheel drive (if they are tsi or gsx) and we cant (wit out rediculous amounts of fabbing anyways) thats it.

thanx for the support on the 420a. i was wondering if you could use a 4g63 turbo manifold on the 420a. and why is a 4g63 swap not possible? thanx dsmers:talon:

No and refer to this post...

That question can easily be answered by searching. You must do research to benefit from this site... no one will hold your hand and feed you answers.

Great man,
I always dreamed of a talon...but here in europe is a RARE ANIMAL:cry:
Good luck with your car!

thanx for the support. and i still on a very long quest for information and the right setup for me. as soon as i have everything put together i will share what i am planning to get your opinions. thank you

"Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice can be worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard")."

Crazy Canadian in the blue 2g at the shootout did it. 420a car. Converted 46g3 awd. I forget his name, I was intoxicated, but that sucker is fast.
