Well some of you may have followed my other thread on 2G potential etc http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=271587. I said "I'm going to be looking at a 95 talon AWD pretty soon here... I just barelly missed out on a nice 91 for cheap ".

Well the story is I found that 1G on craigslist two wednesdays ago. Called him that Thursday and yaked it up with the guy, set up a time to look at it on friday and figured it was set... well before I went to sleep that night I checked craigslist again and found his ad was gone :|. Call him friday and found out some guy called him up late that night and was trying to paypal him money etc... he wanted the car bad so he said it was sold . He said to call him back later to see if the guy would back out but I figured it was gone and called it done...

Fast forward to this last thursday, browsing craigslist again and low and behold the ad is back LOL explaining the buyer backed out. So I call him early friday and setup a meeting time to look at the car later that day. Go there, check the car out... ask if he'll do a handshake deal (no cash and no trailer) he says nope no deals cash and carry only. Apparently he had a couple other guys wanting to buy it later that day but he had some other stuff to do until like 12am and told them to come back at 8am. I asked him if I could pick it up after 12... he says ok. So... I had to pick it up that night or it'd be gone in the morning. Long story short I busted my ass scraping up the cash (all the banks closed) borrowing a friends truck, borrowing another friends trailer and then getting stuck in one of the worst traffic clusterfunks we've had in history (anyone read about the 5 freeway and 14 being shut down completely here in LA?). Didn't get to his house till 3am :toobad:.

But it's all done now and the car is in my garage :thumb:. It's a 91 AWD talon, 105k miles owned by a family friend of the guy selling it. Story is the family friend owned it since new, treated it like it was a ferrari (babied it) and sold it to his brother. Brother had it at a firefighting base and needed to get it out. Battery was dead so they had it towed and the idiot towtruck driver towed it by the front wheels :notgood: and of course ruined the trans. Brother gets check from insurance company, is happy with it and gives car to brother... brother sells to me. The car was at a trans shop until they got the insurance money and some of the work has already been done (flywheel re-machined) etc. As it sits the trans is in pieces (I have all the parts).

It's a nice car though, supposedly at 30k miles the timing belt was replaced and the mechanic missed a tooth and bent some valves. Instead of just fixing the head the dealer opted to put in a brand new motor :thumb:. Same thing happened again at 99k by some other shop and the guy I bought the car from did the head for the family friend as a favor. So the motor has 75k on it and the head has 6k LOL. Felt the turbo and there's no axial play, little radial so it seems good. Everything works and is reasonably tight. New 2 stage paint that hasn't been rubbed out yet. Body work was maybe a 6/10 though... not that I care this is gonna be a DD. Oh tires are recently new, think they're yokos. The car is pretty original, never been hacked up. Leather interior and CD player that still works A/C blows cold.

For $900 I felt it was a decent deal even with the trans :thumb:

So... Goals have slightly changed but are still similar. I want 13's minimum with potential for 12s later on, all with full weight, stock turbo running on 91.

Here's the mods i'm thinking:

- MBC (home made using air compressor regulator)
- Autometer boost gauge (suggestions on mounting? Want to avoid A-pillar gauge pods)
- Aftermarket O2 housing, 2.5 or 3" to be decided by you guys
- Local exhaust shop exhaust from O2 housing back, same diameter as O2 housing WITH cat and quietest least restrictive muffler I can find
- 190 or bigger FP (might as well when I re-wire it)
- home made intercooler piping
- Before turbo intake (one that puts aircleaner in wheel well)
- DSM link

Possible mods if needed:

- FMIC, cheap one
- Bigger injectors IF needed (not sure)
- Different MAF IF worth it or needed

If I can get away with putting an adjustable FPR on it and using the stock injectors i'd just as soon do that. Also when does the 1G MAF become a restriction? I'd like to do the FMIC but i'd wanna pay like $150-200 max for some universal one and deal with fitting it myself.

All mods need to be CARB legal. I only like to install parts once :|.

Does anyone make a CARB legal intake that puts the air filter where the SMIC is?

I'm listening to suggestions on exhaust diameter, seems i've seen 14bs in the times list that run 13s with a 3" exhaust and some that run 12s with a 2.5" exhaust, so what should I go with keeping in mind i'd like to keep the car quiet.

Oh.. finally i'm looking to still get 20+ MPG when i'm not boosting... another reason I wanna stay with the stock injectors. So any suggestions? Any cheaper ways to do this? I'm all ears :D

yes I have considered it, but would likely run out on road course driving where your pretty much WOT for 30 mins :D

well looks like they make a tube with no BOV piping etc for non 14B/16G turbos and no MAF provision... so I guess i'll be fabbing my own

Congrads..... 13's...? too easy..

MBC
Turbo back
Boost Gauge
190 pump
remove jack/spare
remove rear seat
AFC

If the clutch holds... 12's would be attainable.

not cheap, but worth it if it the fuel map isn't going to work with the added boost...

I should clarify I want at least a 100+ MPH trap with full weight, so the power needs to be there. I don't want my friends SRT-4 beating me from a roll :D.

I'm hoping to push it to about 20 PSI... maybe a little more

The clutch was another question, i'm going to start another thread on the trans but I can ask here as well... seems they don't hold up??? If so nows the time to upgrade... and what would you all suggest?

oh ya... no one has said 2.5 or 3 inch yet... where's all the knowledge?

20+ psi? Better consider the "Dodge Garage Mod" for your BOV. ARP Headstuds, Possibly an MLS headgasket, Definitely a front mount, etc.

From what you're wanting out of the car, this is definitely not a "go fast for cheap" project.

To get 12's on the 14b your going to need a few things

Port the 14b
FMIC small one will do fine 2.5" IC piping and a J/pipe
MBC
Dodge Garage mod for the stock BOV
Walboro 255
2g maf or a 3"gm with MAFT
Injectors 550's or 660's
Boost guage and a logger
Something to tune with, either an SAFC, MAFT, or DSMLink
3" turbo back exhaust
2g manifold and evo3 O2 housing
act 2100 or 2600
ARP's and a MLS HG are recommended
AFPR and a guage. Get a real one and not the B&M unit
Ditch the a/c and the cruise control
Do a boost leak test asap

12's are tough with a 14b depending on where your at. The closest I've come is a 13.6@102mph and I've got most of the mods I listed. I've only ever used 93 octane too. No race gas. Another thing you'll have to consider too is that the 14b is only good to about 18lbs and 6k rpm. Many people run higher boost myself included but it's harder on the little turbo. I've run 22lbs on mine but won't do it again because of the two piece stock valve design. If you catch a perfect launch and everything else is perfect you can do 12's with these simple mods but it's not cheap and not very easy.

see we always have 2 sides of the equation, one side says breath on it and you'll be in the 13s, other side says do every mod possible for the same thing... Come on it's a 1g DSM, supposed to be cheap speed...

People in the 11s are always bragging about having an untouched motor... so why's it you guys are saying the headgasket won't hold at only 20 PSI....

Rex all the mods you listed are pretty much what i've already listed, minus the datalogger (thats what DSMlink is for), not ditching the A/C or the cruise control... And will probably leave the injectors in favor of upping the fuel pressure. What is this ACT2100 you speak of?

Appreciate the exhaust sizing suggestion, got 1 vote for 3"... more input?

If you leave the 450's in at 20lbs you'll quickly become friends with fuel cut. You'll need bigger injectors to hit your goal. I'm also not saying the stock HG won't hold 20lbs either. Mine held for a good while. It's just suggested to swap it for better reliability and since the ARP studs cost less than factory head bolts it's cheaper to go with arps. The 4g63 is a very capable platform. Many many people have made 400+hp on the stock engine but very few with a 14b. If you insist on keeping the 14b this is what i think it will take to hit 12's on the stock engine. Others have done it with less I haven't quite hit it yet. You could also just as easily bolt on an ebay t3/t4 and go faster with the same mods. My friend strapped a 60-1 to his stock 7 bolt 2g with very few mods and hit 12.6's with very bad tuning. His engine didn't last long but he did it just the same.
The ACT 2100 is just a clutch. Your stock one may hold for a bit but not long. Also don't forget your modding a 16 year old car. No matter what the previous owner tells you you really have no idea the condition of that engine. It could be just as he says or it could still have the oil in it from 91.

not if i'm running 60lbs :D... only question is if the walboro can keep it up... think it can though

Keep in mind i'm not looking to hit 12's off the bat, i'd like mid 13's for now. And i'm guessing with a turbo back, MBC, fuel pump, regulator, DSM-link and maybe a 2g TB elbow and possibly a MAF I could hit that.... It'd just be nice to have 12's potential with a FMIC and few other things...

You know i'm all for proper english but you guys take it a little too far :beatentodeath:. Last I checked it was a message board not an essay board.

It just makes it easier to read and comprehend. I've read a lot of tech posts before this rule became strictly enforced, and I seriously just wanted to bash my head into my keyboard. Plus if you actually make the effort and show you're half-way intelligent, I'm sure more people would be willing to help.

If I saw a thread with the post "OMGz wtf my frieaking car like wont start LOLz", I'm not even going to waste my time.

Agreed. I know the kind of posts you're talking about, ones that require you reading them over like 30 times before you comprehend it :D. Can you honestly say the same about mine though? This post took me about 5 more minutes to write when i'm worrying about one run-on sentence or an uncapitalized word here, pretty ridiculous IMO . It's not my board so i'll do the best I can to follow it (i'm an engineer though you'll have to give me some leeway LOL). You guys might want to just let it slide in the newbie forum a little bit and be anal in the regular ones...
