"Please join us at the Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy California on October 20 and/or 21 for a day or two of racing mayhem. Approximately 70 cars costing less than $500.00 each will take to the course on Saturday for a two day endurance race, demonstrating a complete disregard for the decorum constraining most motorsports events.

Fans will be hurling lemons and sledge hammers at the race cars. Officials, on a whim, weld appendages on the car, signifying their sentiments of the entry (pigs, chickens and wheels on the roof are typical). Even the winner of the race receives the purse in nickels; at one of the previous races it was thrown at the competitor smashing their windshield. None of the competitors are exempt from the hassle, humiliation and disgrace imposed by the sanctioning (?) organization and fans.

And it's all for good fun and for a few, like the Edge Motorworks team, the Lanterns, it's also about helping others. 100% of the donations made to Lanterns of LeMons, our race focus, will support childhood cancer research directly."

I ran on a team at the Flatrock (Detroit) race last weekend. We had a cavalier, and it was a complete blast. We crapped out at just over 13hrs into the race. I believe this race is their only 24hr-straight race.

Pics!!

I remember reading about their first event in '06 in SCC. Ever since I knew this was something I had to do, just couldn't justify building a car and then dragging it all the way to Cali. With the introduction of the Denver event, that was the green light we were waiting for.

So how was the racing/d-derby?
Any secrets you car to share?
Estimated budget?
Tire consumption?
Was it a straight 24hrs?

I'm on a team entered in the Oct 20-21 LeMons race at Altamont. The team is a bunch of DSM'ers and ex-DSM'ers (EVO's)

We wanted to run a DSM, but none came in under $500 and still ran.
So we got the next closest related car, a Dodge Conquest aka Mitsu Starion. Everyone calls them 'Starquest' but after seeing the botched motor swap of the PO, I'm calling it the 'Carrion' :)
It comes with a turbocharged and intercooled 2.6 liter motor, RWD, and comes stock with 16x8" rims, it's got the goods.
I donated my 14b to the project, the one I ran the 11.98@115mph on. The torque is gonna be nuts! I don't care how we place, just as long as I get to drive it for a couple hours.

That sounds great pneumo. I use to have a Conquest back in my college days. Is it a widebody? Great looking cars. Could you share some of the concerns, trials, and tribulations you went through preparing for this event?

We're just getting off the ground and finally laid down plans as to what drivetrain we're using (have two avilable shells). It's looking to turn out to be a grand adventure and can't wait to dig in to it.

We got a widebody, an '88, a good year. Trials and tribulations? Yup, we haven't driven it yet! We're still working on the car, and probably will continue working on it until the event. It's a slow process, there never seems to be enough time.
