fwd and awd oil pans are very different the downpipe goes through at a different area and there is not spot for the transfer case to fit on a fwd oil pan

so the answer is no they are not

good work. :thumb:

This shit will ruin an entire weekend!!!

I respond to a classified ad for 1G parts; request his awd oil pan... and what does the ass ship me? A fwd pan! Unless there is such a small difference that I cant tell holding the two pans side by side; thats exactly what he did.

I now have three fwd pans, and not one for my new awd shell thats four months in the making and ready for its engine... tomorrow.

-What trouble am I going to run into if i run the fwd pan?

-Is there any reason to hold off on dropping in the engine with or with out the fwd pan installed?

-Will I have problems getting the fwd pan off? I've read i cant even install the transfer case with out the awd pan...

-How can I tell if I do in fact have a awd pan?

This just sucks; but thanks the same.

This has got to be an easy answer for you awd'ers out there. I just need to confirm what I was shipped. I don't want to tell the guy that sent it to me, its fwd pan if it not.

I'm not very good with CAPS, but I have been able to get at some part numbers I'm just not confident there rite. It looks like there are several part numbers listed for the months of 89 for the GSX (my downer shell is nov89)but not many for the GST (90fwd oil pan is on my block).

It looks like they do share a part number between the two cars, and it happens to fall just at my years/months (MD156465)

I can't seem to find a printed part number on the pan itself; is it hard to see? Or is it not there?

I just got off of the phone with SBR, and there is no difference in oil pans whether it's a FWD or AWD.
The only difference is whether or not it's a 6-bolt or a 7-bolt pan.

Thank you very much!

I will be installing my engine for the next few hours then; Hallelujah!!

edit: reference

UPDATE: I just installed the transfer case on my fwd block with fwd oil pan. No problems! It doesn't touch the pan, it looks as if it was meant to be there. NOTE: the engine is still on the hoist. I wanted to do a test fit to make sure.

I will update after I install the downpipe and complete the instillation to put this question to rest; as there are still conflicting opinions...?

The Only Difference In Oil Pans Is Whether It Is A 6 Bolt Of A 7 Bolt. Awd And Fwd Are The Same. Please Don't Post Misinformaiion!!!!!!!

It's not mis-information. They both will bolt onto the block just fine. But use a fwd pan and good luck getting the tranfer case on.

I'm pretty sure that they are the same pan inside and out.
But 6 bolt and 7 bolt pans are different. ( I'm 95% sure about that )

WRONG

Right now on my car, I am running a NON Turbo FWD 6 bolt oil pan on my Turbo AWD 6 bolt car. Please tell me how my transfer case and downpipe won't bolt on, because right now, they are both on without problem!

Yes, they ARE interchangeable.

Yeah seriously, i have a awd, front wheel turbo and a 2.0 non turbo in a not turbo car and in my awd beater, they are all the same and are interchangable. Also they are all 6 bolts, the differences are with the cross members and the rack, and chassis.
