I took out my Walbro 255 fuel pump because the thing whines crazy loud but was getting louder over time and I was wondering why and i didnt see nothing wrong with it so I put it back in and funny thing is once i turned it on it was quiet as about a 190lph. I was like  and to top that off the gas gauge stopped working. It was on E when i did the fuel pump, after I put it back in i drove it to the gas station and put 7 dollars in it and the needle didnt move even though the light went away.
Just wondering what in the gas tank/ fuel pump has any relevance to the gas gauges operation?

( As far as the fuel pump being really loud then getting quiet, instead of the stock set up that plugs onto the top of the fuel pump that goes to the fuel line, the original owner of the car put a thick fuel hose with two clamps... Maybe the clamp was choking flow causing the fuel pump to over work... My own assumption... I did some pulls and it didnt knock or lean out before or after my tinkering and my fuel system has had to deal with over 20psi of boost already w/ no issues so i guess its ok... )

The little thing with the floatie might have come off. You may also have put it back in at the wrong position.

Mine stopped telling fuel level after a launch at the track over a year ago.

No i didnt put it back in at the wrong position, the fuel line that connects to the pump isnt long enough for you to put it in at a different angle... Thanks for the response though.
Im thinking that it has to do with wiring to the pump or something. I dont know.

i am having the same issue, it works its just a little off. Like a full tank will be the 3/4 mark.

heh better than mines.
Is it tru that if you turn the floater device upsidedown or bend it any kind of way that it wont work any more due to mingling with it? At least thats what I was recently told by a friend but I didnt believe they were that sensitive. I took it out again and it appears that I installed it in correctly and it still doesnt seem to be working. I know I didnt touch any electrical/ wiring related connections to the gauge so its got to be involved with the assmebly. Any ideas yet?

A little update on this thread, i finally filled the tank with a whole tank of gas instead of just putting in 5 and 10 dollars here and there like i normally do and the gas gauge instantly started working again!?! I cant say how precisely but it work enough that im content. I guess it had just gotten stuck.
But on a side note, strangely my fuel pump had changed tone again...

What i mean is, when i had first took it out it was obnoxiously irritating screamingly loud and when i reinstalled it it got quiet ( this was the same time the gas gauge stopped working. )
Well that was maybe a month or two ago and the pump has been quiet since then. It would start getting louder the lower the gas i was on got but nothing like before... Well Now , yesterday as I burned off maybe a half of tank of gas ( still above a 1/4 tank ) It was obnoxiously loud again... I was perplexed as it got quieter as I started to drive again, and then got loud again when it was sitting at idle, the pump is about 4 years old..... Just to be safe im going to just get a denso 260 twin turbo supra fuel pump since those are quiet, but in the mean time I want to figure out why my 255 hp is changing tones so constantly.?
* Its not knocking, or leaning out at any rpm I logged it. So its getting proper fuel.

Any ideas
