The recline mechanism on my racing bucket broke for the second time and the bastards won't sell me a new mechanism so I bolted it up rigid and turned it into an office chair. Time to go buy some Corbeu buckets!

A note: Don't buy cheap racing seats. The metal they use for the recline mechanisms is very soft and poorly machined. Both times it broke the teeth rubbed right off. I would not trust these in an accident.

On a side note, I will be selling the passenger's seat on eBay shortly ;)

Sucks to hear about the broken reclining mechanism, that's one of the reasons I went with a non-folding Corbeau.

Yeah, I'll be going for the $200 Corbeau non-recliners too. I looked at the Sparco $300 seats but heard they aren't worth the extra $100 each. Corbeu = $200 savings FTW!

Sweet! Wish I had an office chair like that.

Care to buy one for $150? ;)

Maybe I'll do a write-up on it later ;)

I would like to see one.

Those pictures have peaked my curiosity. I am going to the local shops to see if they have any spare/display seats that they will sell me for cheap. That chair would make a great addition to my office. :rocks:

i made a seat out of my stock 1g seat. ill get some pics up. easy as hell to do. i just have a wooden mounting plate though.

I was actually joking. It would depend heavily on the office seat base you used. I just took two lengths of 1/8" rolled steel and drilled some holes in 'em and mounted the base to the seat. 8 bolts and a crap load of washers as spacers in back so my legs weren't pushed too high up in front finished the job.

I actually reused the steel from making my seat brackets for the car. You can see where I have an extra set of holes and a chunk cut out for the slider release mechanism to rotate.

It is amazingly comfortable to read in actually. I spent several hours in it today doing so. The office chair could recline so I can still lean back and prop my feet up. The thigh support means my knees don't get sore with my feet up. I can just sit with my book propped on a pillow in my lap and a drink on my desk. Best reading position ever! My GPA will thank me for this ;)

*choke* At $215 PLUS the cost of a seat? Yeah right. My six year old office chair cost $80 originally and my seat cost $175. I spent maybe $15-20 on hardware and some time in the shop.

Welcome to the club ;)

I had the chair left over from my car, couldn't get more than 100 for it so I figured why not make a bad ass chair with it. I used the base of my old desk chair and mounted it on a piece of MDF. Everything I used to make it I had lying around.

It's also got a Simpson 5pt harness on it now :p

Reminds me of that thread we had about people that converted seats into racing consoles. Using 2x4's and bolting a seat, steering wheel and pedals into a little gaming area. Those were badass. Anyone know where that link is?
