I have an Autometer carbon fiber style boost gauge and when the car is off it sits between 2 and 3psi. Also when the car is running at idle it never sits at vaccuum, it sits a little above about as much as it sits above 0 when not running. Its less than a year old.

More then likely gone bad, not un common either. Whats autometers warranty 1 yr? if so send it back for a replacement. My last autometer boost gauge went out of calibration in less then 2 summers. I wouldn't even had know it was off since it was still sitting at the same zero mark as always, only reason I changed it was because my origional one was a only the 20psi model. I checked the calibration when I pulled it to find it read 4 psi low & it was pretty close (less then 1 psi low) when I first installed it. On a side note, I did find out my car runs great at 22 psi on pump, when I thought I was only running 19 ;)

Send it back to Auto Meter. I had to send mine back about a year-and-a-half after I originally purchased it. I thought they were going to re-calibrate it. Instead, they replaced my gauge with a brand new one. I was completely free of charge. I only had to pay to ship the gauge to Auto Meter, and that was it. :) I recieved the entire install kit - the gauge, the nylon hose, the bulb, the wiring, and everything that comes with the usual purchase of an Auto Meter gauge.

Email Cory Villani (if he still works there). He is a good guy to deal with. He is very responsive with emails. During Auto Meter's hours, he usually emails you back within minutes. :thumb: Surprisingly I was never asked when I bought my gauge, or for some identification number that would tell them when I made the purchase.

Send the gauge in to the company for service at:

Auto Meter Products
Attention Service

Remember to include your name, phone number, and short description of the problem. If they have a gauge there to replace yours with, then typically 5 to 7 days from the time they receive it to the time they ship it. If no gauge is in stock, then it could take longer.

Thanks man thats awesome. Im going to give him an email right now.

most autometers go bad after a short amount of time...

get rid of it and get a real boost guage

So whats a real boost gauge then. Autometer has been proven and around a long time. Cant go wrong with autometer.

Some tuners (not only DSMers) would say that Defi makes great accurate-reading gauges. Some people swear by them, some people wish they could swear by them if they had enough cash, and some people don't see what all the fuss is about. But these gauges are expensive. Auto Meter's 52mm mechanical 30/30 vacuum-boost gauge is about $57. Defi's boost gauge is about $250. Supposedly, if you get a set of six Defi gauges with the daisy-chain program, it will run you about $1300+. In my opinion, that is way too much to spend on gauges. But some people do.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Defi gauges (currently) only come in 60mm gauge sizes, so if you have an A-pillar that's for 52mm gauges, you will need another A-pillar pod.

EDIT x2: Here are a couple quotes I pulled off of Extreme PSI's website:

-Defi-Link Meter BFs are electronic blacked out gauges which are high response and refined design. When the car is off they have a black face with no numbers on them. As soon as the car is turned on, the gauges light up and are in full affect.

-Defi-Link Meter BFs need to be connected to Defi-Link Control Unit II. Up to 6 gauges can be connected and controlled by one Control Unit II. The name of the connection system is "Defi-Link System." Defi-Link System allows gauges to be attached to Defi-Link Control Unit II with a single "DAISY CHAIN" wiring system.

-Gauge dials are invisible while the ignition switch is off. Once the ignition switch is turned on, a clear display appears with white LED illumination. A red emitting needle pointer increases visibility.

-The illumination color can be chosen between white and amber red. *The color cannot be changed.

-Brightness can be adjusted. There are 10 stages of brightness, 5 stages in the daytime and 5 stages in the nighttime. The brightness decreases being interlocked with the illumination switch on. The decrease in lights can be canceled.

-Driving data can be stored and can be replayed up to 3 minutes.

-Double Warning function by a meter's LED lamp and a beep

-If Defi-Link Indicator(sold separately) is connected, it blinks when any of connected meters' warning LED light.

-Defi-Link Indicators can be connected to each gauge.

-Differential pressure between fuel pressure and turbo can be shown if both of fuel pressure meter and turbo meter are installed.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II is necessary to operate Defi-Link Meter BF.

-Defi-Link Meter BF is applicable only for 12V vehicles.

-Defi-Link Display is a multipurpose monitor which provides information on speed, oil temperature, water temperature, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and exhaust temperature by connecting to the Defi-Link Control Unit II or the Defi-Link Control Unit(end of sale).

-Defi-Link Display can be connected to Defi-Link Meters and Defi-Link Meter BFs by using the DAISY CHAIN wiring system.

-The display uses OLED(organic light emitting diode).
OLED is an advanced display which is self light emissive, high contrast, high response, low power consumptive, and large view angle. It uses optimal technology for instant readability without afterimages of flicker even when seen from the passenger's seat.

-Real-time digital information includes speed, oil temperature, water temperature, oil pressure, fuel pressure and exhaust temperature. Sensor sets need to be purchased separately to display the information on pressures and temperatures.

-Vehicle performance data and peak values are placed in memory for 3 minutes, allowing examination of data after running the vehicle.

*Defi-Link Control Unit II has a 3 minute memory. Defi-Link Control Unit has a 40 second memory.

-When the RPM signal wire is connected to Defi-Link Control Unit II or Defi-Link Control Unit, 2 warning levels can be set in addition to the warning setting made by Control Unit II or Control Unit, enabling the setting of a total of 3 warning levels(Tachometer Triple Warning Mode).

-When the water temperature sensor is connected, the warm-up condition can be monitored.

-A graphic animation plays after the ignition is turned on or off(Opening Mode/Ending Mode).

-An easily recognizable graphic on each setting screen helps guide easy setting of warnings for Defi-Link Meters and Step Graph(Setting Assistance function).

-The Warning LED lights when the set warning value is exceeded for oil temperature, water temperature, exhaust temperature and engine RPM. The Warning LED lights when measured value drops below the set warning value for oil pressure and fuel pressure.

-Trouble locations are shown by graphics so that connection problems can be quickly corrected(Self-Diagnosis function).

-The structure of the mounting base allows height and angle adjustment so that it can match the shape of the instrument panel.

-The Defi-Link Indicator(sold separately) can be connected to the display.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II or Defi-Link Control Unit(end of sale) is necessary to operate Defi-Link Display.

-Defi-Link Display is applicable only for 12V vehicles.

-To display pressures and temperatures, sensor sets needs to be purchased separately. Defi-Link Display displays only speed without installing sensors.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II is a necessary controller to install Defi-Link Meters, Defi-Link Meter BFs, and Defi-Link Displays. Up to 7 gauges and displays can be connected and controlled by one Control Unit II. The name of the connection system is "Defi-Link System."
Defi-Link System allows gauges and displays to be attached to Defi-Link Control Unit II with a single "DAISY CHAIN" wiring system.

-Driving data can be stored and can be replayed up to 3 minutes with Control Unit II. Pause, speed play, forward, and rewind function can be applied during playback.

-Double Warning function by a meter's LED lamp and a beep (Control Unit II)

-The switch panel is embossed and buzzer sounds by pushing the buttons.

-The characters and the rings on the switch panel are illuminated in white at nighttime. It makes operation in the dark easy.

-Defi-Link Indicator(sold separately) can be connected to M-WARNING connector. The indicator blinks when any of connected meters' warning LED lights.

-Differential pressure between fuel pressure and turbo can be shown if both of fuel pressure meter and turbo meter are installed. (Control Unit II)

-UP to 7 gauges among from Defi-Link Meters and Defi-Link Meter BFs and Defi-Link Displays can be operated with one Control Unit II. Microcomputers are equipped with meters and Control Unit II. A distant meter can be operated at hand.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II is applicable only for 12V vehicles.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II is necessary to operate Defi-Link Meter BF.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II or Defi-Link Control Unit is necessary to operate Defi-Link Meter.

-Defi-Link Control Unit II or Defi-Link Control Unit is necessary to operate Defi-Link Display.

How to use the Reputation Recommendation forum
Post a recommendation for reputation points. If our site leaders feel that your recommendation is valid the person you recommend will be given reputation points. Follow these steps:

  • Do not post a new thread for a user who already has been recommended for reputation points. Do a search for usernames to make sure the user you're recommending doesn't already have a thread started about them. If they have, add to their thread with a reply.

  • List only the username in the title of your subject.

  • Suggest one user per thread.

  • With your recommendation, post a link directly to the post in which they helped you out.

  • Do not start discussions or post replies for the purpose of discussing a recommendation. Post recommendations ONLY. If it gets off topic we'll give out warnings and will delete the off topic posts.
