and illegal, well in California it is... but who's keeping it legal these days. Ive seen the same item go for $70 last time, could have been more by the time it ended but I'd rather just make one myself.

what about all of the 2.4L guys? Unless someone is building a custom cover, they cannot run a upper cover.

Hell, a lot of guys I know who make big power (and daily their car) don't even run the entire lower cover, just the bottom half.

I think there are more important things to worry about.

What isn't illegal in california???

oh yeah and with the stuff your car has already, do you think not having a timing belt cover is really going to get you in trouble??? I bet you if you got popped by the cops, the first thing they would look at is a carb sticker on your intake and that shiny hks bov...

Like the whole pound of weight that they dropped by not running it? :|

IMO, the peace of mind FAR outwieghs the cool look and the pound of weight.

most everyone i know does not run their car with that cover on...i mean as long as you don't have someone that hates you and will cut your timing belt, there shouldn't be anything to worry about IMO.

Lots of HP makes them smart.

:beatentodeath:

I can't even discuss this anymore. For people driving their cars everyday, there isn't much MORE to worry about than the timing belt and it's condition.

But about the 2.4 cover, someone SHOULD. Design something and present it to JMFab or something. Could be some $$$ in that...

Or a rock kicking up or a bolt coming loose and falling in there.

Come on people. Have you seen how little it takes to make a t-belt jump teeth?
Fot the love of pete, just leave them on.

I fail to see more than 1 good reason to not run one. (the one reason being track only car, so that you can have quick access to adjustable cam gears.)

Woooah, I didn't mean to start a heated debate of timing belt cover vs no timing belt cover by posting this. I just thought that someone might benifit from the link.... but since we are on the subject, I always run my cover, there is just no point not to. If you think its ugly then get it painted to match your valve cover.

I've never seen anyone drop something into the cover that makes the thing jump teeth, but i'm sure people have "somewhere" and "back in the day" so that means it's commonplace.

I don't terribly care for the look of running with it off but it makes it easy to inspect the belts condition, and make sure everything is kosher. Until i start finding pebbles from the road on my valve cover or exhaust manifold, i'm not terribly worried about shit magically flying off the road and landing in there. As for bolts falling in, don't leave loose bolts under your hood, and you should be fine. It's not like there are any nearby that could easily fall in. [shrug]

I've left it off this time because it's a pain in the ass to take it off and put it on eleventy billion times.

HAHAHAHA, I hope birds make a nest on your crank sproket. But really, you're an idiot.

Back on topic.

I think this would look really great with a polished VC and/or polished heat shield. Maybe too much bling with all of them...maybe just heat shield and timing cover. I'll just leave mine black for now I think, my car has too many dents and dings to pretend a little shiny stuff will make it look good.

Has anyone actually purchased one yet?

Good find Merkles!

Is it just me or are the welds on that thing crapy?!

You are very correct.
The reason I didn't put my entire cover back on, was because it is a superb pain in the ass to take it off.
After I did my T-Belt, my cam seals decided to start leaking about 500 miles later.
So, fortunately for me, I didn't have to deal with the damn T-Belt cover.

I ran my late GST without the entire cover for 50k miles without ever having an issue.

My first drive in pouring rain about made me shit.
I pulled right into my garage, popped the hood to check if anything got wet, and all looked good.

Then one day on my 50 mile one way commute, the county decided to chip seal the road, and believe me, I thought for sure my T-Belt was doomed.
Chip seal is tar, then a shit ton of loose pea gravel put down as the road surface.
You have to drive like 25mph just so you don't loose control around turns until the pea gravel gets worked into the tar, and the rest gets swept off of the road by passing cars.

Now that I have my GSX, I want the Peace of Mind, so when I do my T-Belt in the next couple of weeks, believe me, I'm putting that damn thing back on.
