I've searched til i'm blue in the face! I know the Penzoil Syncromesh is reccomended for the tranny, but is it reccomended for the transfer case and rear dif? Gonna change all fluids tomorrow and need to know what i need to get...

Ha I just posted the answer to this question yesterday, Im on my way out the door so I can't link the post, but do a search using my name and you should find what you are looking for. Sorry I can't be more help.

No, the synchromesh is too thin for the transfer case and rear end. I used Redline heavy duty shockproof gear lube for them both, and it works great.

I agree with ^^^. I had synchromesh in my transfer case and rear diff for a month and the car felt wierd. I changed it to Redline heavy duty shockproof and it is good. :thumb: I still have synchromesh in the tranny.

Thanks for the help fellas! GVR4592, i saw that post but did'nt see your answer.

When i put my motor/tranny in i used Mobil 1 in the tranny and transfer. After researching i want to change the tranny fluid today. I have the Penzoil syncromesh for that. My options for the transfer and rearend are Mobil 1 or Royal Purple. I think i'll try the Royal Purple for those.

You shouldn't use any of the Royal Purple fluids in your transfer case. The Royal Purple Max Gear is GL-5, the service manual calls for GL-4, Royal Purple Synchromax isn't going to protect the gears in the transfer case like a 75-90 Hypoid gear oil would.

I got the Royal Purple Max-Gear. It says that it meets both GL-4 and GL-5 performance requirements. Says "The noncorrosive nature of Max Gear provides excellent results in applications for both GL-4 and GL-5 fluids. Great for Manual transmissions requiring GL-4 or GL-5 fluids." Also "Meets performance requirements of API GL-4 and GL-5"

Still no go?

I run Shockproof in the rear myself - (get your minds out of the gutter)
and MT in the Xfer and MT/MTL in the Trans
