I finally got the SAFC recently and have been trying to tune with it. I think I've got it down pretty good. The only thing that might be holding me back is the stocker sidemount, as you can see from the second log. The first log in 2nd gear. The second log is in 3rd gear.

The car doesn't feel as torquey when boost hits compared to the 450s and no AFC, but up top it feels stronger. I'm seeing 27 -28 degrees of timing on some runs. Let me know what you guys think.

Mods: 14b, 18psi dropping to 16 psi, 550's, SAFC, re-wired 190 pump, air filter, hacked mas, set base timing to 3-4 degrees

AFC setting:
2600 rpm = -12%
3000 rpm = -12%
3600 rpm = -14%
4000 rpm = -14%
4600 rpm = -14%
5200 rpm = -12%
5800 rpm = -10%
6400 rpm = - 8%
7000 rpm = -7%

You can see I'm giving it quite of bit of fuel up top, and am still knocking. Boost leak tested to 18 psi. Found a leak at the throttle body elbow. Fixed. With the oil cap off, I can hear a little air escaping. Valve seals?

Looks like your first log was captured when the car wasn't warm. Coolant temps are in the 130's. It's hard to say what exactly is causing the knock in your second log. Try adding +3% fuel from 5000rpm+ and re-log 3rd gear. If it helps, just keep adding fuel untill your getting less then less than 7 knock

Im in the same boat as you pal!!

I run 16-19 (creep) psi on my 14b, stock sidemount setup with 560s and a 190....

My settings are very close to yours also!! I keep getting lots of knock in the upper rpm's and my settings get richer and richer once I get closer to 6000rpm....

I was still getting knock at around - 9% correction at my 6000rpm setting so I am just holding off WOT pulls for now...My FMIC comes on this weekend so hopefully it will help...My fuel filter is also pretty old, I dno about yours....

BTW, my 4500rpm can go as lean as -21% and not knock, but my 6000rpm setting is at -10% and still knocking, so we really seem to be having similar issues with similar mods...Lots of knock at top even when we richen the safc up...I fixed my boost leaks also

Your timing is really high, I would suggest that you take a look at your base timing before you proceed.

I'm pretty sure this is a normal timing curve for a 1G. I was getting 23-24 degrees of timing advance on the stocker 450's. Leaning out the 550's I'm seeing 26-28 degrees of advance. I think we get more timing advance than 2g's. From what I understand, the logger assumes that base timing is set at 5 degress regardless of what it actually is. And yes, I keep a very close eye on my base timing. Set to 3-4 degres BTDC. I had it set at 5, but was getting knock at 16 psi on pump with the old 450's.

Kraka, I'm really beginning to think that it is the stocker sidemount. On second gear pulls, I don't get knock above 6000. But on third gear pulls, once I'm in the upper rpms, I see knock. My fuel pump and filter are barely a year old. I've set -6% from 6000-7000 and still have seen 10-15 counts of knock in third gear. Oh well, time to spend more money on something else I guess.

Interesting...Weird thing is, I get knock in the upper rpm's when the boost isnt even that high....When I tune for 16psi, I still get knock at 6000rpm, even on my 1st pull that day....Heatsoak? I think not....

Right now, Im thinking its a mixture of the Sidemount and the old fuel filter...No other reason why I am below -10% on the safc, that means somethings up...

Whatever, fmic this week

That's weird. Must be the DSM gremlins. Let me know if the FMIC solves this problem.

Set your base timing properly and do another run. You shouldn't knock that much due to intercooler heat soak.

Well, I threw on a fmic, changed my knock sensor, set base timing to 5*, installed a wideband o2, and changed my fuel filter...

I think its a tad easier to run 18+ now on the 14b, but it still does tend to knock sometimes...Luckily with my wideband, I now know exactly if I am too rich or lean...

Altho the super high IDC's I get I still dont understand
