Anybody heard of any FWD DSMers using one of these?
For those who dont know, the Phantom Grip LSD converts your stock open differential to a Limited Slip.

BM Tranny makes FWD LSD version of this product and has installed it on alot of FWD DSM. So far I've heard nothing but good things about theirs and is cheaper in price too. Do a search on DSMtalk Forum parts/review section and you will find a few reviews about the BM Tranny one. http://bmtranny.com/Products.htm

Your diff won't be any stronger so all you'll be doing is wheelhopping 2 wheels instead of 1 putting more stress on a part that is KNOWN to break even on mildly modded FWD's that are launched especially at the track.

Well I have one in my FWD -

And well - It's better then stock - much better.

Wheel hop is less...... (given your car is aligned)

My wasnt' and that's why I've gone through 6 trannies)

But funny thing is the 2 that I've put it in have lasted the longest.

5 months on the current tranny. And 3 on the other. (but that would of lasted longer had I not given my brother the keys. who thought he knew how to speed shift.... although he can do it in his mustang... I don't think our tranny's are up for it)

Anyways traction, torque steer, wheel hop - all are helped with the Phantom grip.

Besides the fact of seeing two lines of tire marks when you launch.

WOW 6 trannies!!!!!! OMG

My understanding of this product is that its like having a welded front Diff. Having blown 4 trannies in my FWD I can tell you that the front diff. is extremely weak and that any car making more than 300-350hp should seriously consider a LSD. Expensive insurance? yes, but 2g trannies are notably harder to remove than a 1g.

I just brought one to go in my 98 fwd but I have the one with the upgraded springs. So it should hold my ete 32 power. Plus I have motor mounts and I didn't have any wheel hop with my T-25. But I have modded some more thing like 2.5 dp and tp,ete32, So hope it's hold up. I know a guy who have it in his 93 fwd and did 12.2 at the track and he don't have wheel hop so it seems to be a goodupgrade.

I hardly ever get wheelhop, mostly due to my front strut bar and driving/launching technique

Well I personally ran a 13.2@104 with it. Then ran a personal best of 13.1@115 with out it.

I have yet to take this tranny (has it in it but still the original one that I bought) - so we'll see how much it helps.

My does 322whp every day on pump gas.

And I race at 363whp on Race Gas at the tracks. - sometimes

I'd recommened it to anyone - I wish I'd got the new model though as sometimes I think my springs are getting weak and I don't know if I'm actually getting the 2 wheel wonder action.

ps: don't know about 1G tranny's but 2G's FWD's are pretty easy. - but then again I am on my 6th tranny and I've done 4 others. (seems I'm the DSM tranny man around the twin cities area)

A dsm buddy of mine has a Turbo 1G FWD with Phantom Grip installed. He now has tranny issues after 6 months, the tranny will be serviced by the best DSM guru in MN. Its true about Burnoutking, he spends his time replacing his trannies very often..too much power for the weak FWD trannies.

That's for sure I've spent to much time replacing trannies and also working to pay for them (key point) - so I've raced once at a track this year vs. every chance I could like last year.

And Rick S. - is by far the man in MN when it comes to DSM's.
Hell anyone that can build Brent Rau car that got him on the map.

If fit to work on my car!.

I'm also looking for an AWD chassis that I can swap my stuff onto. But that isn't going so well.... I think it will be easier to swap parts if I just get a Running AWD and then go that route of swapping.

ps: technically I'm on my 5th tranny but this one's need to be rebuilt so I consider it my 6th. as it needs attention in the 2-3 syncro area.

Naw that's not true my boy have ran 12.1 in a 93 GS-T. And he has the Phantom Grip and love it and has no problems. And I called Extremeturbo a few of them have it in their cars. I persnal just brought one and going to install it in my 98 gst. but I'm debating should I install it or pay someone. Buut have an impact driver and all the tools I need just don't know. I'll may do it tomorrow. But different ppl have different problems. I know a few guys last year had problems at the shootout with the Quiafe.
