I'm about to purchase a Forge BOV, and before anyone asks: Yes, I'll review it and do a 25psi presure test since I see a ton of people asking, but can't find a post in here where anyone has actually posted their results.

My question is, I run 20psi, can I purchase from ExtremePSI for $165 (w/ free shipping) and will it hold as is, or should I purchase from Slowboy Racing for $170 (plus shipping) and pick up the $15 tuning kit that Extreme doesn't appear to sell.

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

If you plan on running more than 20psi, which most right thinking folks are, then I would advise that you pick up the tuning kit with the BOV. It doesn't matter who you buy from since the parts are the same. It all comes down to cost and who you like to deal with. Both are very good vendors so take your pick on what you get from whom (that made me dizzy).

As far as a review, CanadianTSi runs his at 24 and says it holds boost like a champ.

I just purchased this BOV today from Extreme PSI since they have free s&h and no tax. So you're saying to get the tuning kit, eh..

So what color spring does CanadianTSI have in his?

You both may want to PM CanadianTsi and ask, but I just checked one of his older threads on the Forge BOV and he mentioned that he runs it with the spring that Slowboy shipped it with. Before you go buying spring kits, give him a yell and find out what he has in there.

Sorry guys. It's late and I'm not thinking too clearly (happens all the time!)

Andy

In an attempt to get you guys the right answer, I've PM'ed Jon from Slowboy. Maybe he can tell us what the stock spring will hold.

Hey guys. Thanks for the good faith Andy! LOL Here is what I know.

This is the guide for the spring kit.
Green - 5-15 PSI

Yellow - 15-23 PSI

Blue - 23-30 PSI

Red - 30 + PSI

If I remember correctly it comes with the yellow spring. I wont be one hundred percent until I am back in the shop tomorrow. I am pretty sure however. I will give you the definate answer for the spring that it comes with tomorrow. Hope this helps!

I bought my forge bov from gre & it came the spring & shim kit. I origionally thought it had to be purcased seperatly but when I asked around others had said theirs came with the kit like mine. Maybe it just depends on the vendor? Even with the lightest spring installed the valve held 20 psi with zero leaks when doing a boost leak test.

When I bought mine from SBR it came with 2 springs and 2 shims, one spring is red the other seems to just be plain metal, although this was like 1 year ago.

So far the BOV has held 24psi fine for me. Tomorrow I will take it apart and see what color spring is in it and maybe add a shim or 2 just to be sure.

Edit. I just found the spring kit and the other spring is indeed Yellow, so I'm guessing I must have the blue spring Installed.

The blue spring is tight enought that under low boost (around 10psi or less) the valve barley cracks open and emits a kind of high pitched wistle.

For anyone who's wondering what it sounds like here's a clip of my car on the Dyno...

Sorry, only vid I have. It's not really echoing it gives a couple quick burst's almost like the HKS SSQ but faster.

Sorry about the delay. The yellow spring is what comes inside the Forge BOV from Forge. Hope this helps. :thumb:

Hmm...odd. I checked the one here and even called and double checked with Forge. Lucky you.:thumb: This may be a recent change though. Louis at Forge is the fellow I double checked with.

Most Likely, I bought mine when you guy's first started carrying them like over 1 year ago.

The Yellow spring would probably be fine for most people, infact i'm thinking of switching to it to get rid of this annoying low boost whistle.

OK I'm just trying to make sense of all this. When you buy this BOV, all you get is the yellow spring installed in it? Or do you get the other colors as well? Or do you need to purchase these seperately?

I should be getting mine in the mail tomorrow or Wednesday, so I'll see what it comes with & post it up here.

Edit: Never mind..just saw the tracking status, it'll be here Thursday.

Like I posted above it might depend on which vendor you purchase it from? When I bought mine it came with all the springs and shims.

Got it..this is what you get when you buy from Extreme PSI. Only problem though, is that the Hex bolts are kind of rounded out, so I can't open it up..:| & the paint on the springs are kind of worn out..they still work though.
