Heres some pics of the progress of the DSM over the winter. Im mainly fixing some oil leaks, external WG, Prothanes, Axles, Flywheel, and some major cleaining. And a few other things, just have to wait and see. The Smirnoff really helps to pass the time, especially while porting!
Hope to hit low 12's, high 11's next season. Im not that far off. Just over 1 sec needs to be dropped. W/ me being able to hold boost this year and actually being able to get a good tune on the car w/ the cams, and adding race gas. Plus I'll be addding an LSD insert plus lowering the air press a tad more in the slicsk, and maybe getting a good setup of stiff rear shocks/springs. With these plans, I think its very attainable.

PS. Look at the pic w/ my Starter. All summer every once and a while my started wounldn't engage and just spin. So I was going to replace it this winter, but look at it! The 2 long bolts that hold the starter motor in place were loose and the starter was hanging off like that!

Looks great, I'm going to start getting parts for my 2.3L Stroker that I'm going to start building up in march. To go along with it probably a good used fmic, dsmlink, fic 950's, dejon smim, and a 50trim. Keep us updated on how it goes, good luck.

Yeah I just sold my FIC 650's. Replacing w/ FIC 950's. Already have DSMLink. W/ my new addition of cams late last season, I'm really starting to push the IDC's at higher boost, so they new injectors are in store.

How did I know that was comming? It DOES have the same amount of alcohol by volume w/out the taste of POO POO!

Yeah I plan on having it ready to go by the early spring. I have left myselft plenty of time to do so. Oh yeah you should see me at Martin (131). Midnight Madness was fun as hell.

agreed as well....i just make sure its in a beer glass when the guys are over.

Did a small bit of work on the DSM last night. Got the engine up on a stand, removed the t-belt, and pulled the head off to see how it was doing. TURNS OUT that it seems to be that the huge oil leak I had was infact the head gasket. It seemed to be cylinder 4 was the culprit. It was not pusing coolant, or not enough to ever notice, b/c it was just a tad wet all the way around the back side of the block/head where the HG is. The cometic must have just not liked the ocasional creep to 28psi on a non perfect deck surface w/ no copper spray. Oh well Im glad I found it, it will be getting a new Cometic, new ARP's and copper spray this time around w/ a near perfect deck and head surface. Just look at the pic of the subframe, and all the oil on it, so obviously it was comming from that gen area and not the main seal like I had suspected. Also, take a look at my shiney valve train! I'll best most of your guys' are bronze color. Also those other 2 dooshebags would be Derrick (tight04tib) and Paul (99gst_ricer/racer).

Well after looking at people and how clean their swaps were, I don't feel as messy now. I had a little more fluid on the ground that you, but not too much. Oh, and our motors look about the same caked in oil and grease You're getting there.

Ok, I haven't updated in a while b/c I honestly haven't taken any pics but I will soon.

I pulled the oil pan, and found a bunch of metal shavings. Removed the pistons, and crank, found most of the rod and main bearings were on the way out. None had spun, but they had moved quite a bit and spit some shavings.

So what to do? I decided to try and find a G4CS 2.4L block and crank and build that up. However, I can't find a G4CS bottom end anywhere locally, and frankly, I'm not paying $400+ to someone that ripped it out of a junkyard for $200.

So, although I didn't really want to, I decided to go w/ the 2.3L stroker. I ordered a 4G64 6 Bolt 2.4L crank out of a 87-88 Galant. Actually, I got the last one from KarKing, OE size, basically a virgin crank. I don't run ANY ground/undercut cranks. Mitsu themselves say the cranks are a non serviceable item and I am not one to dissagree with Mitsu. I'll be picking up some Wiceco 2.3L Coated stroker pistons for $335, and Eagle rods for $242, along w/ Clevite rod and main bearings for $30 this weekend from a local distributor.

The block is at the machine shop right now, getting it bored/honed, decked, hot tanked, new core plugs, etc. The usual. The head is going in next week to be resurfaced too.

I cleaned up the head a lot. If anyone wants to know, a can of Gasket Remover does wonders on aluminum heads, if a aluminum safe degreaser is unavailable. Just put liberal amounts of the gasket remover on the entire head , and leave on overnight. Then, clean off the head with brake cleaner, and put on the gasket degreaser again, but leave on for 2-3 hours, then repeat. Scrub off the grease, etc, until the head is nice and clean. I know mine sure is, even after lots of caked on oil and ex. gasses.

As for the rest of the car, I cleaned up the engine bay quite a bit, it looks very good now. I also installed the front and rear Prothane engine mounts, as I already had the 2 side's in. I also have been trying to put in my Fidanza Short Throw Shifter, however its been giving me problems. The install went easy, but the bushings are not fitting, its like the hole needs to be drillled out some more.

By the way......the only way to go is the good ol' Natty Light(beer).....the cheapest you can get, so I can spend the rest of my money on my DSM haha

midnight madness is ok. They don't prep the track for shit though. But I still cut low 1.8s being easy on the drivetrain.

Why a stroker Dan? Seems like you would want less traction problems.

Midnight Madness is at the US 131 dragway in Martin, MI. Usually every other weekend they have an event called Midnight Madness. Its $15 to enter and you can run all night long. Its from 10pm to 2am. And TJ is right, the track isn't prepped for shit. They only watered down the burnout box once or twice a night. I could only manage 2.0 60's w/ the slicks.

TJ, I know I complain about traction so much right now, and believe me, a TRE and full LSD is next on the list to help with that. I just wanna get the engine done right now, since I was forced to do it due to the bearings, yada yada.

Here's some pics of the progress. I also got a new rear main seal put in, and bead blasted the main seal plate, looks better than new! Also I cleaned up the turbine housing and gasket matched it w/ the manifold too.

Dan, sounds like this thing is going to be a beast when its done. Good luck with traction you will need it...trust me haha. Keep us updated as to whenyou get it all done.
