Ok I need help diagnosing perhaps several oil leaks. Currently my head is off and is going to go to the shop soon to get rebuilt. However, I notice that everytime I would park somewhere I would leave behind oil on the ground. Recently I was driving and upon acceleration, the car started losing power until it slowed and died. It had no oil. Here is a picture where I see oil in the engine bay. Any suggestions what it could be? Headgasket? Blown turbo? Cracked head? cracked block? Any suggestions would help.

This is not my engine bay, however the blue circle is a smaller leak, and the red circle is where oil was spattered everywhere after my car died.

We're going to need more information to help diagnose the problem thouroughly, but from where that red circle is, I could think it's turbo related. I believe the crush washers for the oil feed tend to wear out and need replacing, you might want to check that. If there is a leak where that blue circle is, the only thing I could think of is the Valve Cover Gasket is starting to go. It's a relatively simple task, and not too time consuming, considering you have a decent set of tools and knowledge. I don't know what else could leak from that particular spot.

Try to get some pics of your car, and where the oil is. It will help us help you. :thumb:

i too had a lot of oil in that one spot, as well as down the front of the head and other misc. places.. i had always thought it was my valve cover gasket that needed replaced... until i got a new oil fill cap.. fixed 95% of my oil leaks.. now i think my oilpan is a little leaky.. maybe?

if you drove it until it died with no oil, you might be looking at just more than a re-built head. i would pull off the oil pan and look at the rod bearings before you go putting that re-built head on. you may just be looking at a whole new motor if you really screwed it up.

Just to clarify, upon acceleration it started slowing and it died this process took no longer than about 30 seconds. I doubt I screwed the whole engine because I filled it back up with 4 quarts of oil the same day and drove it home. The only problem was the oil leak.

Common oil leakage places are Rear Main Seal, turbo drain to pan fittting/gasket, front cover seals/gasket, oil pan, turbo feed line, valve cover, head gasket.

Check the turbo drain to pan fitting/gasket first, then move on to others. Try to pinpoint where the oil is from under the engine, maybe the trail will get thicker as you follow it to its leaky destination.

See, my car is leaking quite a bit of oil too. I have checked every thing I have mentioned to you besides my rear main seal. My conclusion is it has to be that for me, So its getting fixed this winter. I was actually leaking a quart every 3 days.

Ok I am back home from school and have taken a few pictures here they are. There is oil all over the damn place! What can be causing this!?

It really does not look that serious. That's just build up from previous owners not changing oil frequently, or running low on oil and/or using cheap non synthetic oil, and not changing it every 3000.

Clean it up, install a new VC gasket and change your oil frequently.
