I am gonna go ahead and buy a new timing belt to stop some worries I have. So do I get one at the dealer or some autoparts place(autozone,advanced..etc)????

They're pretty much all the same , since they have to pass tests to be even put on the market.
Everybody says the Mitsu belts are better , but ALL timing belts are required to last at least 50K miles , or you could sue the manufacturer.
So buy whichever one you want. :)

"Dealer. Dealer. Dealer."

"NO place else."
Not unless you wanna spend a bunch of money you don't really have to
All timing belts are the same.
Ive been working on cars for over 10 years and DSM's for 3 years.
Trust me , it makes no difference what belt you use.
They all have to be replaced every 50K anyway.

i agree...... any belt is fine.

the people that say something happened to the belt or say NON dealer belts are junk more then likely installed it improperly.

i dont think mitsubishi has a rubber belt factory and are making there own belts. they just stamp there name on another companies.

i have a Goodyear Gatorback Timing belt on all 3 of my DSMs. $26 from autozone.

Thank you. You can ask DSMED, he knows from experience how cheaping out on 20 dollars can turn into a costly mistake.

oh yeah...go ahead and buy the cheap autozone belt. Then come back and ask me about 8 smacked intake valves...LOL....believe me GO BUY THE DEALER BELT!!!!!!! If you don't believe me, then go buy one of each and hold them up next to each other, then YOU decide which one you will feel safer putting on your DSM.

then explain to me why i have never had any trouble with the 3 Goodyear belts i got from autozone...... ??? i dont think goodyear is known for making junk

and they look identical up next to each other.......

probably installed it incorrectly!

why are all of these people trashing the goodyear timing belt , because on all of the shop cars that bmtranny has by my house , the goodyear gatorbacks are the only timing belts they use, Mark French , the owner of bmtranny even told me that those timing belts are better than oem mitsubishi ones

if you don't have quite a bit of experience working on cars I wouldn't try to do the timing belt on an N/T myself- it is truely a bi*** if you don't know what you are doing (i.e. reading from a book) in fact i doubt the shop manual tells you the tricks you need to know, i know where you are coming from with the pos chiltons manual. you can get a shop manual from the dealer, but expect to pay near 100$. you could also try ebay. if you do do it by yourself though, go through the chiltons and ask alot of questions at 2gnt thats where i got some of my questions answered, dsmtuners is turbo-centric. and i hope you have small hands, for your sake.

go all out and buy that kevlar timing belt. I think they last a long time or they have a lifetime warranty.

I ordered mine from TODA Racing ... sure it was crazy expensive $200, but I threw a rod in my engine and have an engine and transmission on the way, so compared to everything else I purchased... that wasn't bad ... supposedly much stronger than stock.
