Hi i recently bought a 1995 tsi awd. Took care of all the free mods, and installed a autometer phatom boost guage, last night. Started to run 20 vacuum, and 8psi of boost  . I know that this isn't right, stock is 11psi. I'm checking for a boost leak today, but what else besides a boost leak could cause this? any idea's?? Thanks.

i hooked up the same gauge in my friends 92AWD talon and he only pushed 8psi most of the time. I also have the same gauge in my car and i was pushing 11psi(I think someone might of did the BCS mod though, im not to sure, i have a MBC now set at 16psi)

First Gen's run at 8 Second Gen's run at 11 psi. If you don't have a boost leak then your turbo might have enough shaft play to hit the housing and stop it from attaining anymore boost then 8. OR, you have a 14b on your car without a MBC. They're set to 8 :thumb:

1st gens are stock 11 psi not 8

check for boost leaks, let us know where you hear them

1G cars have a stock boost pressure of 8-12 psi. 2G cars have 10-15 psi. The service manual allows lower pressures, but those are rarely seen in actual vehicles.

We're both right. So how 'bout we compromise :)

just got the car back from the shop today. It turns out that i have a blown headgasket ouch.... well no big deal though... a warranty came on the car which covers the headgasket and timing belt. I went to remove the boost guage to figure out what the problem is. It turns out the line somehow got cut in half during the install.... luckly its only been 2 days, and i made sure not to boost. So there's the problem. thanks for the input. peace
