Okay I just got my new ACT 2600 kit in the mail today from prostreet and have all the parts to get my car running again (clutch, flywheel, fork, mounts). I open up the box and to my surprise they sent me a metal throwout bearing built by Nachi-Fujikoshi! OMG :notgood: I thought that they did not use metal ones anymore and substituted the factory or NSK plastic one? I am satisfied with everything except this. Shoud I order a new t/o bearing up before I do the clutch this weekend or should I just put in the metal one? I really don't want to take my tranny out again later because the metal bearing f***ed up. What do you guys think I sould do. Thanks in advance. :talon:
 
I would throw the metal sleeved bearing away and get the plastic bearing. Its not so much of the bearing f'king up, it is more of it wearing and f'king up the shaft on the tranny. With a 2600, there is the chance of a fair amount of side loading on the bearing and will slowly wear away the shaft with every time you press the clutch. If anything, spend the extra $35 just for the peace of mind.

Before you throw that release bearing away, take an Exacto knife and try trimming the inside surface.

I just received the same bearing in an ACT kit. Whilst it definitely looks metal lined, it actually is not, it's plastic. The Exacto knife test should prove this.

Thanks for that tip. I just did this and it does turn out that it's plastic, saved me from buying another one. :talon:
