1990 eagle talon tsi. been parked waiting for a water pump. Got brave did it myself. Before fixing i started just to check. When starting while stored no problem, starting for fix, small issue. While cranking car tried to start, but when key went to run position, died. After three times, started and ran fine. changed water pump, timing belt, and other belts. NO problems. Went to start same thing. Ran car to check pump, NO problems, turned off and restarted first crank (twice). Changed radiator, and tried to start. NOTHING???? checked spark, none. changed coil pack, power transitor. NOTHING??? Power to coil is present. no spark at any wire. please help... power going to cam sensor? not reading any at harness.... :confused:
 
when you say cas, do you mean cam or crank? also checked fuse, looks good? coil new and comes with power transistor. also went junk yard for differant cam sensor. still no spark. cam sensor $370 (stupid). junk yard $29. out of 20 only 1 still had it on. don't have a test harness to test while running (trying to start). is power supposed to go to cam sensor. any help is great. also where can i find a cheap ecu. part store $348, junk yard none (any where in Dallas). again thanks. :confused:
 
Its cam angle sensor, 90's dont have a crank sensor. 2 of the pins at the harness should have 5 volts with the key on. You can get a ECU on ebay for about $100 or you can can get a rebuilt one from autozone for 200. A new ECU might not solve your problem though. I have a similar problem right now, Im not getting spark in 2 cylinders. I have replaced the coil, power transistor, CAS, ECU, and I still have the same problem. I have posted in a couple of different fourms but no one is helping.

I would test your coil and power transistor like the manual says to make sure they are good.
 
checked most things. my cas has no power going to it. and doesnt the power transister come on the coil pack (back). if not were? and what sends power to the cas? :cry:
 
Man i am having the same problem, i bought a new coilpack in aug, never really ran the car much over the winter, today started tuning, baby ran great. So while i was in the 1991 eagle talon tsi pop pulls out spark plug wires to check for spark then all of the sudden it acts like two cylanders werent firing, alot of vibration and only two cylander/wires were sparking. Tryed new coil and plugs so. Please any input will help i will keep you posted if anything comes up. :talon: :mad: sure pisses me off when something out of the blue goes wrong, new ECU by the way, and new plugs
 
All of you guys that are having this problem, check your MPI fuse. It is located on the positive battery cable right next to the battery, in a group of 3 fuses in a black box. The MPI fuse will be the 20amp fuse closest to the driver side.
 
it's amazing. a web site for people who state they have the ability to run 8-12's and the only tech answer i can get is others who cant start there cars or some simple statement about fuses. out of over 100 views is this really the best we can do. after reading other threads i can under stand such an answer. I'm not totally brain dead. a little maybe. don't you think the first thing i did was ohm out every fuse to the best of my ability. i would enjoy hearing a detailed answer to no power at cas, from some one claiming to have a fast car. it is hard to think that out of over a 100 no one gets it. NO POWER TO THE CAM SENSOR. and Ive seen the post of the electrical diagram. its amazing the amount of wiring harness that are different or have extra wires. I'm trying to learn but to learn, you need facts. detailed facts. if i knew everything i could speak tech lengo but i don't. i need a smart individual to help step by step. plain English and patient. because up to this point only nautica985 has helped with real answers. facts people facts. if it happened to your car what would you do? and remember i have power to coil. don't be afraid to ask probbing questions. maybe it is something small BUT WHAT.....

WHAT WOULD ONE OF THOSE EIGHT SECOND CARS DO????

1) It is not a given that someone who can run "8-12's" knows a damned thing about the car except to point it down the track. If they never had a problem such as yours they wouldn't have any reason to know. "If it ain't broke don't fix it". I'm not a DSM expert, I was a professional mechanic for many years and have seen many problems so it's not a given. It's a quantum leap from looking at a monitor and a hands on experience where you employ all your senses to diagnose a problem.

2) I don't know if you pulled each fuse and tested with an ohm, certainly testing in the circuit would provide many false results.

3) Few people understand 12 volt circuits so with 100+ views you have narrowed the field down or maybe you didn't give them enough to go on.

4) Are your injectors firing, what's your fuel pressure?

now the fuel pump only comes on when the car is the start position. the starter now is a single click. and while manually turning the engine, my time jumped :cry:
