I had both Palmn'Stein and MMCD with my 1G and by far MMCD was better. Now I have a 2G and if you want to go free it seems like Palmn'Stein is the only option. Since I don't like Palmn'Stein all that much(although it does do the job) I did my research and found this logger the other day. It even does a 0-60 time! :rocks: Its nice to have both, since they take up so little room, at least if Palmn'Stein starts acting up theres a backup, or visa versa. Anyway here's the link, check it out. http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/

What OBDII connector are you using with these programs? I tried to use it with my pocketlogger cable but it tunerstein didnt work with it. I wanted to see if one of these was able to log more than 6-7samples/sec before I bite then bullet and just get a DSMlink.

For Palm 'n Stein you use the Multiplex Engineering interface. The program above I linked to uses either Multiplex or ELM but you have to set it in the options as well as tell it to use ISO which is what our cars are. Im not sure what Pocketlogger uses, you might not be able to try it out, but I know it'll work for the guys running Palm 'n Stein.

im also very interested in this... does it work with the pocket logger cable? i wont be able to find out till this weekend. if someone can let us know that would be awesome.

DiamondStarM i would like to make warm puppy love to you :D I been using PalmNWhatever and i been having so many problem. So much so that the learning experience got spoiled and i stopped playing with it. I felt bad cause now i had a Palm, cable , Eng box, cradle etc that i paid for that was just collecting dust. Hopfully this will make the experience more enjoyable. Well that is once i get my car back from the shop. Will post how it goes ASAP.

Also to all those that needs a box T16-006 i HIGHLY recommend buying from Multiplex Engineering . I am no way advertising but when i knew nothing about logging this guy took the time over the phone to explain everything to me and how the system works with DB-ll , such a great experience. Well like before i will post once i play with it.

I can try and install it on my palm and give it a shot, but I dont think its going to work just like tunerstein didnt. I think the pocketlogger cable is proprietary or something. Ill do it tonight when I get home. I think i've lost hope with the whole pocketlogger though. 7samples/sec is not enough to have an accurate log in my opionion. So soon I am ditchign it and just going with a DSM link.

Ok well i tried this thing today and it's amazing. I'm erasing my paln n stein software and just using this from now on. It's way more user friendly and easier to read. :thumb:

How well does the 0-60 calculator work? Any good/realistic?

Thanks for posting this by the way. I've downloaded it and will be trying it out soon.

the 0-60 is fairly accurate, if you are moving when you click it, it will say stop the car, then when the VSS reads 0, it becomes ready, then when the VSS reads 1 the clock starts till it is at 60. Now someone make one that can estimate HP and were talking.

[Update] Pocket logger cable does not work. It wont initialize with the program on my palm. Just like tunerstein does just, it just sits there. How many samples are getting with the OBD gauge?

what about messing around with the interfaces and protocols? i see a whole bunch of settings... one of them might work? anyone have any luck?

Bump, anyone that was able to use it can tell me what preferences to set it to... how exactly and what needs to be done, thank you.

I installed it on my Palm but I can't figure out how to use it. I think that it is not getting a reading from my diagnostic port? :(

I'm in the same boat, but I just changed to ISO setting with the Multiplex interface. I'm going to try it again tomorrow and see if it will work. It's under;
OBD Gauge (upper left)
Options
Preferences
Interface: Multiplex (that's what I'm using)
Setup
Protocol: ISO (just changed it)

i got my car back friday and havent had a chance with all the school work i had but later tonight i am going to try and play with it for a little. Ill keep you posted.

I know if you select the drop down menu from the PDA you then go to options and it says "start recording".. when you record or select "stop recording" how do you review what you logged?

Anyone using this for pocket PC or a laptop? I was wondering what that ActiveSync was, when i download the program from the website then i select setup it tells me "activesync needed" what's that?

BUMP. how do you do it?

I also had to change my settings to multiplex/ ISO settings to make it work.

I found out about this logger the other day and found a OBD-II cable for 16 bucks. Now my question is, if i bought the serial connection to connect to this cable i could i have a logger for like 30 dollars? (i already got a sony clie pda).

What up guys - just registered, nice forum you got here. I just picked up a multiplex plug to do a little SAFC tweaking on my evo and I'm apparently one of a select few on the evom board who know about these two free loggers. Anyways, I got both OBD gauge and palmnstein to work on a palm Vx in the evo (evo is OBDII very similar to the 2nd gen DSM)- and just got done getting both players on the desktop. I also had to change the connection to "multiplex" and "ISO" under properties, that was key. So here's my questions:
Can you export tunerstein data to Excel? OBD gauge does that really nice, and the desktop analysis software kicks a**
Can OBD gauge record several runs for later playback? How? This one looks like the better of the two, but I'm anal about that all-important timing advance curve, and I want a good few uphill runs I can look at later and convince myself I'm not gonna burn it up.
