:dsm: My AT tranny seems like a piece of shit! when its cold it clunks and then there is nothing and slowly catches and then runs like i have a clutch :barf: . when it goes up hills and downshifts it clunks. did i just get a lemon or are the AT just pieces of shit for every one... :barf:   ????????

No, that's not normal. Sounds like something is definitely wrong. Check your motor mounts to see if any of them have crapped out. If any are loose, that could be what's causing the clunking. Also, check for proper fluid levels and be sure to use a good quality fluid, such as the OEM stuff or a good synthetic Dexron type fluid with a bottle of black LubeGard added to correct the friction coefficient.

:dsm: yea my fluids are perfectly fine. its actually at the shop that we had the tranny redone at about 5 6 weeks ago i will check the mounts when i have a lift in my auto class. i was looking at them and they looked slightly dryrotted. not loose. anyways i want to change them because it will help with the little wheel hop that i have when its damp out :dsm:

mine broke. But it's okay though, ordered a billet convereter from transdude as well as some other goodies while she's out.

Aren't DSM auto tranny's supposed to be more reliable than the manual ones?

Of course it all depends on the driver, but as far as back to back performance yes. No miss shifts, also reliability can be extended by taking the precautions of upgrading tranny cooler and end clutches ect...

btw: GSTracr, you know the project two people? They are good guys and do good work.

:dsm: I dont know them as friends or by name but i went in there for audio and perf q's and were real informative. im still negotiating(sp) with them on a custom fg sub box for the rear. I'm there almost every time they have little shows at the shop.

i blew my tranny like 6 weeks ago and idk what the fluids looked like. im still haveing problems with a hill switch??? and a some p_______ valve that is sticking in the colder weather.

auto trannys aren nearly as strong as man. if you read any reviews they state that the auto is much less sport intheused(SP) while the mans are sweet and short shifting!!!!!! ROFL :dsm:

I see these posts all the time here.

"I just had my trans rebuilt and it doesn't work right". Then you guys take it back to the shop and get the run-around.

When is everyone going to figure out that there are very few people that are qualified to work on these transmissions?

I realize that money is always an issue when getting something repaired, but is it really cheaper when you need to deal with a hassle or pay to get your trans done two, three, and four times?

All that I can suggest is that you take it back and demand that it gets fixed correctly. I don't know what type of results that will produce, but it is my best suggestion at this point.

I totally agree with John. Yes you might pay alot for a transmission rebuild, but the old saying goes into hand, "You get what you pay for". I only wish I lived closer to IPT to make the trip for john to rebuild mine, but I had a trustworthy local shop do it and it's working great. Yes it costed a pretty penny, but I only plan on doing this once. :thumb:

:dsm: trans trust me price was not an issue it was completely rebuilt 9 guess. i have a year on the warranty. and when i took it in they said that it could be the build up in/on the plentum? the hill hold throttle sensor??? can u think of what it is? :dsm:

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a 'hill hold' anything on an automatic transmission.

Hill hold systems are only found on some manual trans vehicles.

what about the plentum?

I doubt that anything in the plenum has any effect on transmission operation.

The plenum is the intake manifold, that has no effect on the tranny. Are you having this fixed at Mitsubishi?

That is like word for word of what I was gonna say. :thumb:

sounds like mine and all the other 2g AT i've been in, especially in the cold. have taken it in a couple times and i never get any answers. i'm thinking it's just a flaw you learn to love, or you learn how to drop in a manny.

I think your tranny has issues, because an automatic is all about the comfy ride. It shouldnt be acting like you guys are saying.

yea, I've got a '93 auto AWD, and my trans would shift and act fine even when it was -15*f. It always shifts nice and crisp, never clunks, never slips. Best automatic trans I've ever driven.

john isnt the translab shift kit supposed to fix the clunky downshifts and gear hunting?
