After many requests, i have decided to do a write up on how i made my tweeter mounts. It uses the mirror panel or the "sail" panel, whatever you want to call it. This will allow you to mount your tweeters in the pannel and be flush, blend with the interior, etc.

First, go to the hardware store. Pick up a piece of pvc pipe that is about the same size as your tweeter. Most tweeters taper so find one that is about the size of the end (where the grill is).

Take the pipe and cut it at the angle you want to face. Besure it is long enough to fit the whole tweeter in the pannel.

JB weld or expoxy the piece of pipe you cut to the mirror pannel.

Take a hole saw or dremel and remove the plastic from the mirror pannel

Use a dremel or file to remove material untl the tweeter fits into the pipe snugly

Go steal you moms, girlfriends, sister's pantyhose, or get the courage to go by some pantyhose and streach it tightly over your mirror pannel. Superglue can be used to keep in in place on the edges if necessary.

Coat the piece with fiberglass resin. You may want to do accouple of coats as this will be the foundation of the piece.

Add fiberglass matte for strength. You don't need to be perfect here but the better it fits the less sanding you will do later. One to two layers should be fine.

Sand the fiberglass until it is relatively smooth and free of excess material.

Use body filler to smooth everything out. It may take multiple applications depending on how maticulous you were with your work. Sorry no pic for this one.

After it has been sanded smooth, primer and paint to your color of choice.

You just made some custom pannels that not only fuction but look good and stylish. You do not need much experience to do this but i recomend you atleast practice using fiberglass once before you do this. Pretty damn easy though. This was one of my first projects. Anyway, just wanted to let people know since i've have recieve questions about them.

I've already seen this on I think DSMtalk about a year ago...

nice write up though... I prefer fleece my self or speaker cloth but to each his own..

Yeah, i did a write up on dsmtalk but have had many questions since it's been down. Figured it regurgitate it. Fleece would probably be better but it doesn't have to be incredably strong and it ended up actually being really strong. The pantyhose makes it really easy to work with and creates a cool shape with no work and the fiberglass makes it easy to keep the shape.
