Ok i have a laptop already, i really don't want to get a PDA just so i can datalog. I really don't want to spend the money on dsmlik yet, $600 i don't have at the moment. I read somewhere about using some type of PDA emulator to datalog. If anyone can help me out and let me know what i need as far as software and where i can get the cable, the help would be greatly apprciated. Also if anyone knows where i can get the datalogging cable that would help to. Thanks again.

Emulating a PDA on laptop? That sure sounds like the hard way to do it :) Just pickup datalogging software for the PC with cable. One example is http://www.obd-2.com/ (this is what I currently use).

There's a couple of opensource options that the Lotus guys use, but I don't know where they get the cables.

Ok after searching all damn day and night i found the download page, i have succesfully downloaded the tunerstein player and logger on my laptop from this page http://students.db.erau.edu/~szabafab/stein/download.htm , follow all the directions and it should work perfect, mine does, but i haven't been able to hook it up to the car yet because i need the T16-003 cable and a null modem cable for my laptop. hopefully i will get mine sometime next week and i'll let you know how it works out. This place http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/products.htm has the T16-003 cable you need for a 2g.

ever since i've seen this post, I did find a Palm OS emulator, by searching in google. I downloaded installed it and installed a ROM.

Well I also put MMcd on the palm emulator. I haven't tried to connect it to the car yet because Im wondering if I can use the cable I bought of Ebay for the PC.

Basically its three wires and has a seral port on it. My laptop does not have a serial port so I bought the Connector which goes to USB.

Im still wondering if this is gonna work. Anyone have any experience with this ? Or am I just wasting my time ?

here is where I got the Palm OS emulator :

EDIT **

I took this from the site i got MMcd and I am still confused.

Q.) What do I need, hardware wise, to use MMCd?

A.) A few things are needed:
# Compatible Palm Pilot / knock off (the bulk are, will post a list later), or a PC (laptop most likely, duh :) ) running POSE (Palm OS Emulator) with a compatible Palm Pilot ROM on it.
# Datalogging cable. You can make one, buy one... reuse your PocketLogger cable or whatever you like. Eventually I'll post schematics on making passive & non-passive cables. At this point, the bulk of people reading this will already have a cable and are just looking for MMCd updates.

I had read about doing it with a emulator but the mmcd only woks with the 1g's so i didn't have that option. i think i might do a write up on this because i had easy time installing the tunerstein software onmy laptop and i read in other threads that it is hard to install. I might do a write up once i get my cable and make sure eveything works right.

well the emulator didn't work, i think it is the USB / Serial adapter. Soooooooooooooooo, I took my home PC into my garage which has a built in COM port and it worked right away ?!?

So off to find an older laptop w/ serial port or a Palm m100 OS w/ datalogger cables.

I currently have the one from www.obddiagnostics.com. It comes with a serial port, so you have to get a serial-usb adaptor, but other than that, it works great. The key is to not try to log everything at the same time, since they can only pull a certain amount of data within a time frame. After I got that, wrote a program that transfers the raw data into useable graphs.....and now everything is pretty nice, LOL. :thumb:

this is a null cable moden

u can get this at any computer store

in order for the emulator to work, you have to pull a .rom file from the mmcd.prc.

does anyone know how to do this?

Also, i keep getting an error when trying to run tunerstein. i've put the .dll in the dll cache and also the directory i was supposed to.

What am i doing wrong? where should i run the program from? help!

thanks in advance.

p.s. i may just end up using my logger but i'd rather use my labtop for clarity and ease of use.
