I took the gear clusters out of an evo 1 tranny and put them in to
a dsm tranny case with the dsm final gear. when we put it together
there was one thing that was puzzling me. what keeps reverse gear
from engaging while driving? my friend and I couldn't figure it out
so we figured maybe just the detent locks it out. now I have
the tranny in my car and when you put it in reverse it works fine,
but then you can put it into first and that works fine. but once you
put it back into neutral you are still in reverse. this only happens
some times. some times neutral is not reverse. can anyone
help me out here?

other then that the tranny is awesome, 40mph in first gear @ 7000 rpms.
and 75 mph in fifth gear @ only 3200 rpms.

Somehow I have a feeling that you had some spare parts left over when you were done, and you weren't sure where they came from.

Look for a small, cylinder shaped object about one centimiter long with rounded ends. It should be chrome. It goes inside the 1/2 shift fork base. If you look at the shift fork there will be a hole in the top where it attaches to the shift rails. It's a little tricky to get the cylinder back in because it has to fit in the detents on the shift rails, too. You'll have to pull the tranny and take the whole thing apart again. I bet you didn't want to hear that.

Or you could say, 'screww it' and just live with it the way it is now.

Unless it is contaminated by metal or something else, reuse it.
