Since it won't ever see the streets, how do you suppose I break it in? Dyno? Do a few "easy" 1/4 passes? Chance it and run it on the streets for a few short bursts around the block? *Oh yea, there's no exhaust*

i like to do a big AWD burnout to break my clutches in ...works for me
+ 500 miles would be 1/2 a race season for me hahaha

Well if it only a track car, witn minimal street usage, then put it in and blast away. The break-in is more for longevity. Plus it's easy to just buy a new disc cheaply or if you use a puck, you can have it re-pucked when needed if you went that route.

I don't break mine in. I drive it everyday and kill it at the track. YMMV.

Drive it around town for about 500 miles. To break it in, Use it. oh and try to keep your foot out of it.

ACT 2600 does not need a break-in period for clutch's sake (unlike CF clutch). However, it is needed for drivetrain's sake! I am sure you must have noticed just how hard it grabs when new. Well, it gets a bit better after "some usage".

I recommend a break-in period equivalent of 1 hour in stop-and-go traffic. 500mile break in number is bogus because miles are not what brake in the clutch, the clutch is broken-in it by taking off, slipping the clutch (but not too hard). I have seen people 700 mile to Ohio for the shootout thinking that this was more than enough to break-in the clutch, well it wasn’t (as broken drivetrain later indicated).

So, just take it through a major traffic jam and you will be all set :).

ACT states a break in period of 200-300 miles. Actually liek stated before, that City driving is actually what breaks in the cltuch. A lot of stop-and-go is a good way to break it in. This would apply to both 2100 & 2600. Thats how i broke in my 2100, drove around Charlotte all day, even went into rush hour traffic , with a lot of stop-and-go.

I drove around for about 300 mi on my 2100 and the engagement smoothed out after that.. I was suprised to see the 2100 hold a 5k drop and roast all 4 tires.. :D

I drove about 250 miles being real gentle (3000 tops) in city traffic and then another 100 miles of 3500 tops for my new 2100. I could definately feel that it got easier after a while. Now if only I had non-leaking transfer case and new CV boots on my axels so I could enjoy it.

what about breaking in a clutchmasters clutch. y'all were saying there are differences between act and centerforce, so anything special about clutchmasters?

i recently had a fidanza flywheel and an act 2100 put in my 1st gen tsi awd what is the break in period for a clutch and is it completly nessecery. what problems may i encounter if i don't break it in.

Yes, the break-in period is completely necessary. You don't want your new clutch disc turning to kitty hair prematurely or your pressure plate warping, do you?

300 in-town, stoplight-to-stoplight miles is the bare minimum break-in period. Don't just hop on the nearest interstate and take a road trip; you aren't giving the clutch anything to do that way. You need 300 miles of engaging and disengaging, and careful engagements at that; no stomping on it from a light, no power-shifting, no bucking the car.

Tell the guy you set the race up with that you're going to have to postpone it a week or two.

how much did it cost you to get installed?????? Or better yet how much should i expect to spend on my installation????

i spent 350 on the flywheel, 340 on the clutch kit and 220 for intallation.

thanks for the responses i'll be sure to break it in correctly.

Ok I just installed a act 2100 and act xact flywheel about 1 1/2 weeks ago...how many miles did you break in your clutch and what were the results?
