Ok well here is the idea, I was thinking on maybe getting something together for the spring. Yeah I know it's like 3-4 months away but I was hoping that if we get a discussion started now that maybe by the time spring does come around we have some good ideas and we can actually get this thing off the ground.
Like I said this would mainly be for the NEPA region, though anyone with a dsm will be invited. We can do one of many things:
(These are purely suggestions, if anyone has any better ideas by all means speak up)
1) Track Day - There is a track called Numidia raceway it's in well Numidia PA, www.numidiaraceway.com They will be opening up in March, or so their site says. I know that this past season they had a kind of "run what ya brung" type event on Friday nites, this would be strictly time trails, no bracket racing. We could possibly work something out on a specific date later on.
2) Dyno Day - There is a place in Larksville PA called "Peformance Fabrications" they have a dyno jet chassis dyno. Now there prices are, I believe, $70 for 3 pulls. I would imagine that if we got enough people to commit to going we could probably get a group discount. I haven't talked to anyone about this yet so this is purely speculation, once I see what sort of interest this brings I will get things rolling.
3) Bar-B-Que or something of that nature - What is the statistic? In PA you are never more than 30 miles from a state park? Well maybe if the first two options don't attract anyone we can try something along these lines will.

Again all specifics can be worked out as the time approaches, just post if any of this interests you.

I think that the track day would be cool or the BBQ but I dunno if chassis dynos are awd or not so that might be a problem. I really would like to get alot of people to go though.

i dont know how far away you guys are but i'd definatley be down for a DSM BBQ or just some sort of meet

I see a fair share of DSM's around these parts but it would be cool to get as many of us together as possible even if it's only once. It just seems like all of the meets the people attend/start are like 2 hours away from here.
My friend owns a WRX and he belongs to one of their forums. They get together 1 sunday per month to eat lunch as see who is doing what. I mean they are going and helping each other with installs and all. They go to shows they go to just about anything. In fact half of the time they just go out driving on backroads for no particular reason. This thread is a perfect example of the interest we have down these parts.

saw this thread and thought id give some of my input.. well i live about 30 mins from Numidia Raceway and 40 mins from Beaversprings dragway.. Ive raced at both.. I am a big fan of drag racing and been to each track numerous times. One of my good friends Bill runs a 8 sec. camaro and a 9sec S-10.. Ive learned alot about each track.. Condition wise.. Numidia is in great shape the track is very nice.. You also run lil bit faster at Numidia than beaver springs. Some people say Numidia is downhill.. But my personall favorite is Beaver Springs.. Its a good environment there. Unlike Numidia, Beaver has a seperate class for Sport Compacts. Also, At beaver springs you can Rent the track. I dont think you can rent Numidia. Me and my friends have rented the track at Beaver twice now and had a blast... Its a really good deal.. we should get some sort of DSM day where we could rent the track and race. All it takes to rent is 10 cars. $30 each for like 3 hours of racing. each additonal car after 10 cars is still $30. i hope my post wasnt confusing.. i was just tryin to give ya some info..

check out beaver's site: www.beaversprings.com

Thanks,
Orso :thumb:

miteclgst, just keep everyone up to date on what you and everyone else wants to do...i would be down for anything jus gotta know whats goin on and when, should be a good time...any time dsm's get together is a good time :thumb:

Well I'm very close to Numedia and for the state park idea, Locust Lake or Tuscorora State parks are close to me also. There is also a gas station off the Interstate 81, Mahanoy City, Exit that has a DYNO, but I'm not sure how much he charges. If anyone is interested just look in the phone book for the Interstate Exxon with a 570-773 exchange.

So there are some suggestions for you guys if you plan on the Numedia, BBQ, Dyno Day.

Orso, that Beaver springs idea sounds like a good option. To tell you the truth Beaver springs never even occured to me even though a friend of mine raced there a few times. Renting a track would probably be the best solution as long as we can get x amount of people to commit to going. I know at the very begining of the season people will flock to the tracks to blow off the winter's dust, so this will mean that there will probably be a lot of people at an open-to-the-public track. At least if we go the "rent a track" route we would be ensured that we would get a good number of runs in.
I have heard of people renting numedia for a couple of hours, they too charge somewhere in the $300 region. Obviously to "jive" with the track's schedule and everyone elses' it would probably be a Saturday Morning. I say this because friday and saturday nights they usually hold events (test and tune, grudge races..etc) and sunday morning they usually have points/bracket racing. Also we could fit in an afternoon BBQ if anyone was interested.
Whitetalon16g you have a good idea with the dyno. I guess someone would have to call to see what rates are and if it is just a 2wd or an AWD dyno. I attended a dyno day last summer and there were about 20 cars total. The whole thing started at 9am and ended around 2:30pm. They charged $40 for 4 pulls with wideband. Hopefully we would get a rate somewhere in that region if we could bring a couple cars.
These ideas are great, hopefully we will get some more interest and by next spring we can get a good size crowd to go.

yeah i personally know of about 5 dsms that said they would def run if we rented the track.. All it takes is 10 cars to rent the track at beaver. So theres half already.. But yeah a Cookout would be nice as well. Maybe we could have a cookout at the drag strip.. I think Beaver has grills on the grounds somewhere. not sure on that though..

Just noticed the post. I am from Scranton area and I know a couple others DSMers my way. I know we can get 10 people to rent the track for sure. Other than that, Im down for a NEPA meet or a dyno day. We had a meet two years ago actually, but never since. Either way we have alot of time to figure things out.

i think im on the right side of pa for this.i aint got a dsm yet but i got a 3000gt vr4 so i can bring that.im up for anything

Hey, I'd be interested in this.. There are 2 dynos within 25 miles of my house.. And a track in my back yard.. The track is called Maple Grove Raceway and they have friday night grudge racing starting in I believe Early March. The dyno near my house that I go to is at a place called Xotic Motorsports, it is an AWD DynoJet.. They charge $40-50 for 4 pulls with wideband.. Like i said, I'd be interested so, let me know! :talon:

I live in Clarks Summit (next to Scranton). I'd be in for getting the track. Right now I'm waiting until March when I can get to Beaver Springs on Friday nights. It really sucks that I have to drive 2 hours to get to a track from here, and I refuse to run on the street, which is why I started autocrossing. A meet or dyno day would be great; theres a shop called Redshift that sponsored NEPA-SCCA Solo 2 this year. They use a hub-mounted dyno thats portable, from what i understand, and can do AWD cars. Im not sure of the cost for it, or where its being run from at this point, since their old shop in Forty-Fort closed and I haven't talked to any of the guys from there since Hans passed away this summer.

Hey man, we shuold meet up one time. Im in Blakely(like 5 mins from Scranton). Im surprised I never seen or heard of you. Most of the local kids know me now-a-days, Im sure even some from Clarks Summit. I heard a few differant things about Redshift, and I dont think they have, or ever had, a dyno. As far as a track for NEPA, Island is only about 50 minsutes away from Scranton area.

they had a dyna pack setup but they recently went out of business. I don't know for exactly what reason but I would definately say that a lack of interest didn't help them. I work about a block away from their old location in West Wyoming. They had a garage with at least 5 bays and a show room but it seemed as though the same people were always there. From what I understand the land lord was a greedy sob also. They didn't have a great deal of work. The location was prime, right off of Wyoming Ave. but lets face it there aren't a lot of people in PA who want to go fast. I can imagine that the death of one of their own probably affected their decision on closing. Around my parts people are more concerned about show rather than go. Seeing a car that had anything more than a CAI - muffler - strut tower bar, is a rarity. We are more of a plastic spinner and pep boy vinyl type region.

I'd be down for something in the spring. I'm from Southeast PA outside Philly. I suggest a dynoday/trackday. Xoticmotorsports is 15 minutes away from my house, we should get a big dyno day going on there on a friday, and then go down to cecil county dragway in MD for friday night test n tune, they are only about a 40 minute drive from each other. We could also go up to Maple Grove Raceway near Reading. Check out Xoticmotorsports.com I think their site is, they host philly DSM meets every now and then. If people are more interested in meeting up in NE pa, I'd consider making the drive.

yeah, i realized that after I got my talon. I started looking more closely at DSMs, and they all seem to have the basic things done to them, exhaust, intake, and some of the guys Ive talked to with them haven't even thought of touching their suspension. It gets really annoying seeing so many cars with a body kit and a huge tip, but don't do anything to actually inprove the performance. Then there the kid who I went to high school with who swore that his 3kGT SL with a piggy-back fuel system and dual fart cans would beat a stock VR-4, which was expecially irritating because he said that his car now has 220hp He said it was because it weighed less with the fibreglassed interior and stereo. I really start to wonder about some people.

I actually live in Justus, and I work in Olyphant, so I'm usually around there. I only got this thing in March... nothing really to write home about yet. Im sure some of the CS kids have heard of you, since none of them have any idea how to go fast. There is one kid I used to dive with who had a blue WRX, but even he didn't know how to do anything properly.

Interrestingly, Redshift's website is still up, and theyre selling a 720 horsepower TSi. .

I live 2 minutes from Toms95Tsi.. I'm willing to meet up when ever you all decide of something.

Also, Redshift is still in business from what I heard, I emailed them about dyno tuning my car and told me that they could? Haha not sure

You have some good ideas, my concern is that I wanted to keep this thing up in the NEPA region like you mentioned. I went to Xotic for a dyno day and, though they have a nice facility and very reasonable prices, I don't think I would want to drive 2.5 hours to go there again. I was hoping to stay in a region maybe in a 1hr radius of Scranton give or take a bit. Anyone, even if they are from MD would be invited but I wanna keep this in NEPA and not make a meet where the target group (NEPA DSMs) have to drive too far to go to. For this reason I will try and contact Numidia Dragway and see what their renting rates are.
Another reason that I would like to keep this closer to the target region is because nothing is worse than breaking something at a track that is 2+ hours away from home. Numidia is about 45 minutes from my house and probably 1 hr from scranton. Also many people will pass on going if they have to drive too long to attend.
Keep the ideas comming, from what I read I think I will try contacting Numidia first and see what they have to say. Once I do this I will get back to the thread and post my findings, if they are unable or too expensive to host such an event, another dragway will need to be located.

Well I just e-mailed Numidia Raceway to see what they have to offer for such an event. I will get back to you guys as soon as I get some info from them. :thumb:

Give Island Dragway a call as well. I was there almost two months ago, and it was only a 50 minute drive from Scranton.

Ask and you shall receive. :thumb: I e-mailed the guy with the same message that I sent Numidia. I pretty much said that we were looking to have a day independant of regular sanctioned events in which we can run our cars head to head with slips and all. I also explained who we are and what we all have in common.

Again I will get back to everyone as soon as I hear from either track. Then everyone can make an educated decision as to where to hold this thing.

hey Nick I remember the meet we had a couple years ago, not too bad of a turnout, i think i still have my pics. Anyway, to chime in on this issue, I am down for track day/dyno day you name it. I am about 30 mins from Orso, we need to keep this thread alive and get something planned no later than the end of january so we can reserve something if need be. I know when the tracks open for the season it starts getting busy REAL quick.
