I am ready to upgrade the rear speakers in my eclipse. It looks like the ones in there from the factory are either 6 1/2 or 6 3/4. But it lloks like I should be able to fit in a 6x9 speaker. Please check my pics and let me know what size speakers I could use.

thanks

Stock speaker size is 6 1/2". You can modify the factory brackets by cutting a lil bit to make 6x9's fit if you want to. Using a dremal would be your best bet, thats what I did anyway once upon a time.

there is precious little in decent 6X9's available but great 6.5" are easy to find. I'd stick with a 6.5" mid-bass

HEY CRAZYCLIPSE... i want to see some more pictures of your car you should put some in the gallery...

People. I bought the 6x9 pods off someone like a 1 1/2 years ago. I put the speakers in infinity kappas in em and the magnet on them was hitting the wall behind the wall bigtime and wouldnt sit properly... AT ALL. so I had to put the stockers back in. What do I do? No one has been able to help me with this. Are there thinner (less deep) 6x9's?? I've only had 1 suggestion and it was foolish, to cut a hole in the wall there, but I am def not doing that. I dont want to damage the integrity of the unibody. Feels like some thick steel.

I couldn't find the box so I whipped out the tape, so here's what fits: 2 7/8" mounting depth
3 1/8" diameter magnet. these fit fine for me. In my friend's talon he had a pair of 6x8's so we just used the grille plate that came with them and put those in.

i had the same EXACT speaker pod in my 1997 nt eclipse. there NOT 6.5 or 6.3/4. the speakers are 7". and i got some audiobahn 6x9's to try and make it fit. and let me tell u.. theres NO way in hell to make them fit unless i pound my wheelwell down about 1.5 inches. and theres no way in hell im going to do that. so some advice just get 6.5's and make 4 new holes in that pod. thats what i did. these r the speakers i got http://www.millionbuy.com/adbas69q.html and if u get anything close to that size im pretty sure theres no way ur going to make them fit. ive had these speakers for about 3 monhs and have nothing to do with them yet. after i took the whole back of my car apart i didnt want to put it in without new speakers so i installed some 6.5 pioneers i had. just go with 6.5's

Hey, i just put some rockford 6x9's in the rear of my 96 nt eclipse. Pull off that foam stuff, and then take a saw or something and cut off the plastic things underneath them, then sand them down with a belt sander to make a flat surface. then get some 3/4 mdf and cut a mold to fit the speakers, and cut the inside of the black thing to fit where they sit from there. the speakers should mount flush on the mdf. then screw the mdf to the black plastic and wire up the speakers and mount them to the mdf. you might wanna pain the midf black or something, cause it kinda sticks out a little if yours sitting in the back. Any other questions, pm me or something, did it last weekend.

Some pioneer 6x9's fit I've got the TS-A698 they fit great they're kind of old but they fit great no pounding! I'll try and find the measurements.

I didn't think anybody else but me had those speakers! They fit great and sound even better!

yeah 6x9s will fit just find u have to trim almost all of the plastic ttho, even the little things that stick up with foam on them, I have some Infinity Kappa 692.1i and they barely clear the sheetmatel the magnet is so big but a refrence should fit fine... Brian

One of my stock speakers was partially blown and I had some Sony Xplods sitting around, it wouldnt fit right in there. I ripped the top tweeter off the speaker and it sounds great and fits great.
