Last night my sunroof wouldn't close. It would get about 3/4 the way shut and just stop. And acting like something was catching on the track itself. I brought it to work this morning looked at it. I took the glass off and started to find out where the driver side track was hitting. I found out that it is pretty messed up. It's hard to explain.

I am just wondering if anyone has had to replace the tracks for it. Or had to replace anything in that matter. I just want to see how much it is going to cost to replace one of the tracks.

I replaced the tracks on my esi before i sold it.

summary: (i got carried away)
expect 180 each rail from the dealer. find them on car-part.com

The sunroof didn't close all the way and it was raining so i forced it and watched a piece of plastic break off and fly across the parking lot.

The dealer quoted my 180 for the rails....then all of a sudden it was 180 each (once they had come in special order from LA, im in SD)

so i checked out car-part.com and found a guy in burbank with the rails for 100 bucks total.

On the way to the dealer, the sunroof let go and exploded on the highway so i was pissed. 400 bucks for the glass.....but instead, when i went up to get the rails, the guy had the glass to.......still only 100 bucks.

so i took the rails i got from the salvage yard guy and cleaned em up, and of course i didn't return those as the mitsu ones and keep the new ones. (of course not)

OMG, so i`m not the only one with this problem?!.. .damn.. the little pin doesnt go into the track properly, and then when the sunroof closes it leaves a gap because the pin doesnt sit inside, it sits on TOP of the rail correct?!

Actually. The arm itself will not pivot down. It won't let it lay flat. So something makes it stop on the track as well as it not pivoting down.

I took mine completely apart and put it all back together in an attempt to try to clean and fix everything. It worked and i didnt have to spend 180 bucks. Just a thought.

I remember that.

sounds like i may be officially no longer a complete nobody here! sweeeeeeeet! (unless you meant something else of course)

Mine wouldnt shut, pissed me off...so I replaced it with another track assembly I got at a salvage yard and the old one was completely mess up. The actual screw/wire things that move the tracks were all stripped. It was pretty easy to replace. If you are having a hard time finding some I know a local salvage here has lots of them. I'll find you a price if you want or give you their number.

Did it. When I had the glass out I cleaned both tracks with lube, industrial break parts cleaner, and some more lube. Didn't help. There is a local salvage yard here in KC. I am going to see if they have any 2G's.

There are little plastic ramp inserts in the rails that seem to break. When they go the sunroof gets to that point and stops and tries to fold down flat.

I bought new rails off of the trader and swapped them in pretty easily. This was after assembling and disassembling the broken ones multiple times trying to rig it to work.

A tip if your going to try the junkyards: Bring that hand crank thing with you, so you can see if the sunroof works before ripping in to it. I gave up on finding a complete one real quick, and had to settle for getting two working rails from different cars.

Good idea. I went to the junkyard. They didn't have any 2G's at all. Good thing they didn't have any...because I didn't even think of the manual crank to see if it would work. Next yard I go to I will remember.
