Is this belt worth the extra money? I know the obvious sales pitch that its so much stronger than the oem mitsu belt and stretches less. SBR has them in their inventory, any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Power Kevlar Timing Belt $159
Power Kevlar Timing Belt

Mitsubishi Timing Belt $70
OEM timing belt

Also MachV has the same belt, but they have also the Power Balance Shaft Belt.

Power Balance Shaft Belt. $48
Power Balance Shaft belt

Balance shaft belt $25
OEM Balance shaft belt

So is the extra $112 worth the money or is it just a hype?

If you replace the timing belt like you should (between 50k - 60K) you should not have a problem. If anything I would purchase the balance shaft belt since they have the tendency to give out before the timing belt and screw things up. I may use one when it's time for me to do the belts again.

Exactly. Keep up with regular maintenance and OEM is fine. The Kevlar ones won't hurt if you have a bunch of money burning a hole in your pocket but OEM should do just fine.

just because a timing belt can last 3 times longer than the OEM counterpart that doesnt mean the seals and other accessories belts will last that long. Just get OEM belts no need for kevlar unless its a full out race car

My timing belt just went at 49,000 miles since it was last changed. It looked like it was in perfect condition. I have no idea as to why it went, but I know I'll be spending the extra money on a Kevlar belt that I know will last at LEAST 60K so I don't have to pull my head again any time soon. :thumbdown

Was it an OEM timing belt?

Also when you last replaced the timing belt did you replace all of the associated pulleys and timing belt tensioner. If they were not replace this will lead to premature belt failure, kevlar or not.

They are supposed to last 3 times as long, but like was said. you water pump, and all of the other accessories are going to go sometime, so you will have to take off the timing belt anyway.
