This only happens while my car is stone-cold, first thing in the mornings, at it only seems to happen at temps lower then 50° or so. When I go to crank my car over, it sounds like its misfiring, and it doesnt get over 1000rpm's, and it sounds like its seconds from stalling. I guess the noise i could use to describe it is "Wop-bubbub-bbuub---bbub-bub " And, i'll shut it down, cause it doesnt sound good, but no metal interferance sounds, just that nasty misfiring sound...but when i crank it over again, it will do it just for a lil bit, and finally cough its problems out and run perfectly. And it'll start up just fine for the rest of the day, but its that initial start-up that is one that bothers me.

Is it a common thing for more cold-land DSMs, or what? I was relying on thinking it was normal because everything had settled over night, parts arent oiled, and its hard on the initial start-up because it needs to get everything motivated. And it only happens on pretty chilly mornings, warm nights and mornings arent a problem. Any suggestions, or just deal with it? Thanks.

Does it also make a repetitious 'click-click-click' for about 15 secs, then stops for a few seconds, then start again, only when at OT? It really bugs me, makes me scared cause i start to think the crank is slapping stuff, or i dont know, 500 things run through your head. It makes that 'tick-tick-tick-tick-tick' sound, just about as fast as you can say it out loud. It starts to overpower the sound of the engine at idle...i might be able to get a sound clip of it online, but it might not pick it up. Grrrrrrr  im getting pissed just thinking about it.

check your coolent temp sensor it located on your t-stat housing when it goes bad the computer thinks it a beautiful 70 degrees out side. mine did the same thing and i swaped that out if fixed it. the tick-tick sound is most ikely your lifters mine also does that but i am to lazy to care  keep us posted

How exactly should i go about testing it? If I remember right when I had it hooked up to a diagnostics tool, my CTS was reading what seemed like normal #'s. Im brain dead right now from running a jack-hammer all day, but i cant remember the correct name of those continuity tester w/ amps and volts metering device....Volt meter? Also, what would be the best route to fix my lifters? Are there aftermarket parts i should look into or just OEM?

Thanks for the responses people...makes me happy on the inside   :D

just use a volt meter under ohms and check the reading if you dont have a hanes manuel call up the dealer ship and they can get the correct numbers for ya. on the lifters check dsm parts and go from there! :thumb:
