First off, I got a used set of wheels and tires from a a 2G a few months back. The car has been parked until last thursday say for about a year. (work in progress) I go and get an alignment friday, to get rid of the slight pulling to the right. I changed the outer tie rods during the build, so I had to get this done. I watched the guy do the work, he put the computers on each wheel and read the screen and adjusted the tie rods. His computer doesnt have settings for camber and toe so he cant adjust them. My car still pulls the the right and they call that an alignment. What do I do? He said maybe I need a camber kit, or maybe my frames bent I dunno wtf. Please Help I dunno what to do. Its not a really bad pull, but it pulls

I have had the steering column out and the wheel off the column is this my problem?

Does it pull to the right when you are driving or braking?? Dude, I would go back and get my money back then go to a REAL alignment shop. Thats bullshit, if you pay for an alignment you better receive a full alignment.

It pulls while driving down the road, brakes dont make it worse or better. Im gonna go talk to the dealer and then go back to that alignment shop and try and get my money back, but I dont think ill get it back :thumbdown

if it's a real shop u went to just get them to cover it under warranty. my shop has had a couple ppl come back. we jsut tell them sorry and we will put it back on the machine. try again, if it still doesnt work, ask for another tech to do the work.

what if mine pulls right sometimes when driving and other times its ok, and pulls a little harder right when braking?

also check your tire pressure! If one wheel is off significantly, this can cause it to pull.

well i dont think its the pressure thing cause i recently rotated them, and it still does it. but i think im gonna change my breaks, again, cause they are squeeking like crazy. unless its from the stuck caliper, could that be? thanks

Could be a sticking caliper, recently happened on my work van. Easy way to tell, clean the wheels really good an driving it a few days and look to see if theres exsessive brake dust on the wheels, or drive it around for about an hour and go to a shop that has a heat gun, that can read temps. On my work van it was weird, ended up being a freezing caliper, out off 4 rotors 3 read 100d and the sticking calipers rotor read 400d. Im gonna look to check now if maybe i have a slightly sticking caliper, i notice weird brake noises, which maybe my problem, but ill listen for it more often now to see.

alright ill clean the wheels tomarrow, then i gotta drive an hour anyways so ill check it then.... thanks for the help.

I watched him, his computer didnt have specs for camber or toe. I went to the dealer, and got the specs, hopefully things will be fixed in the morning.

What kinda of piece of crap alignment machine doesn't have TOE specs? Anyway, toe being out of adjustment will not cause a pull, only tire wear. Try rotating the tires from side to side, esp. in the front. Does it now pull left? If it does it is your tires. Most cars will pull slightly to the right since roads have a "crown" to them to let water run off. Basically the side of the road is always lower than the center so depending on how much of a crown there is the car will pull right. A camber kit will probably not help either since that also doesn't really cause a pull. I'd rotate side to side, remove all the caliper pins, lube them with brake pin grease (sil-glyde at your local NAPA store), and check the front calipers for sticking (push the pistons in, are both sides the same?).

Maybe its my imagination, ball joints are good, outer tie rods are new. Tire pressure was checked and done. When jacked up the tires have no wiggle Is camber and toe adjustable on these cars?

The guy says that there arent any adjustmant on our cars for camber or toe, if theyre are let me know so I can prove him wrong

There is no way the guy who is doing the alignment can be that stupid. He must mean there is no adjustment for rear toe or camber. If not God help whoever brings there cars there for an alignment. I think you are kinda missing the point, Mike. The toe will not cause the car to pull like you are saying, camber usually won't either. It is either a caster problem (not adjustable on our cars), a tire pull, a sticking caliper, or an air pressure problem. If the caster is out it would usually be due to a bent suspension component.

Hmm, ive never noticed anything bent, ive been under the car messing with the tranny numerous times. Im gonna have to say I have a sticking caliper, I washed my car yesterday, I'm gonna start looking for exsessive brake dust. This sucks

umm...last time i checked all roads are slanted so the rain can fall down off of them. This always will cause the car to pull one way or the other.

thanks im aware of the crown, but its gotten as bad as a quarter of a turn of the wheel when i brake, so i dont think thats it.

Ok I had the alignment shop recheck as I watched. My camber is off on the front both sides. Front Left the bottom is out and the front right the top is out. The pull isnt really bad, but im worried about tire wear. he said he cant adjust camber on my car with a aftermarket kit. He looked over my suspension to find nothing bent.

Well, I guess your going to need a camber kit then. What really amazes me is that whoever is doing these alignments on you car didn't say "Your camber is out, but we can install a kit for xyz dollars.". Apparently he is more interested in taking your money than fixing your car unless he's going to install the kit and then not charge you for re-aligning the car. Here is how it should have gone if they were doing their job right. You come in for an alignment, they find the camber is out, if they are a large shop they should have the camber kit in stock, if not they should find out if any of the auto parts stores in the area have one in stock, then they should call you and tell you what it is going to cost, giving you the ability to decide if you want to do it or not. It really sounds to me like this place is very unprofessional in how they are going about this. As for him not seeing any bent components, if your strut was bent 1/4" or even 1/2" would you be able to see that? Probably not. Let us know what these guys say when you ask them about installing the camber kit.

John

He said he called around trying to find a camber kit, and couldnt find one made for my car. He told me to go to the dealer "Mitsubishi" and see if there are any aftermarket kits available. I cant seem to find a cheap price on a kit off the net, most kits are for 95-99. I'm pretty sure they'd do the camber install kit and re-align for free, they seem really nice at times, but at other times kinda hickish all up in your face. Where can I find a cheap kit for my car?
