hey i remember all the people up in montgomery getting rid of gm maft and going straight burnt chiped and safc. did you do the same also? im just always running rich like they were and im starting to get really excited because i almost got all the parts to do the full conversion...

also did your collant temps drop from opening up the bumper? im scared like you were, about f-ing up the bumper and it not looking good. i really DONT want to cut the bumper up but if i have to i will. im thinking about cutting 3-5 2" holes in the front bumper...

Yup, seth is trying to sell his. Recently i've just been hearing nothing but bad things about the maft's. I just have a 2g mas and dsmlink - seems to do alright. Lenny has a 3g mas and seems to like it also. As for burning the chips i havn't heard anything.

To tell you the truth i havn't really looked at coolant temps now that i've cut it. But if i can remember correctly i think it was around 210 now. I'll have more info for you tomarrow.

I saw on one of the forums where someone cut holes, and it seems easy enough but it didn't really fit the look that i wanted. I just taped it off while on the car so i could see where the fmic ended etc. Then got my angles right, made sure it was straight with a piece of paper, drank some beer and got my dremel out and hacked away haha Just take your time, be confident and it'll turn out nice.

yeah i can remember as far back as a year ago when JC was running 11.99 in the auto and him complaing about gm maft. i heard him and rob both made the switch to 2g mass and dsm link and picked up alot of power...


but thats besides the point, i dont want to cut the bumper unless its gonna lower coolant temps. even tho im not really getting air to about 2/3rds of fmic...

I heard it does. But that's hearsay, I would think every little bit helps though. We both have the same probs right now, i'll let you know how it turns out.

JD, the last time i talked to him, is looking at selling that eclipse. They are all looking at buicks and other POS's.

Let me know how the rest of your project goes with lowering those temps. Seems to be the only thing slowing me back right now

well im not really fighting it im just tired of always having to keep a close eye on it, but i will definetly keep you informed about what works and what doesnt work..

phantom knock is kicking my ass right now. im hoping (crossing my fingers) between swaping out my bad cv-axle and chiping my eprom that i have that beat and i can start turning the boost up to 20psi on the 20g...

I would think this type of ducting though, makes the car less aerodynamic since it kind of looks like a big shield stopping from the air movign smoothly I may be wrong though, but I hope this sucker will keep my temps engine temp down

Well, the stock dsm oil cooler kep tit pretty cool, btu that was without the forntmount, stock oill cooler kept the temp guage needle between the T & E of the "temp" phrase on it, I forgot how cool it was when the logger was logging it though, but this thing is twice as thick as the stock one and liek 1.5 times loner, but it has a frontmoutn on, so Ill jsut have to see.

alright we can get a little back on topic here. i have two slim line fans from sbr http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=174 .

they work perfect but something isnt right because i did the rewire mod so that i can have them on a switch and there are two speeds for the cooling fans. sometimes it wants to be on high and other days it just feels like being slow and be on the low settings. i cant figure out why it does that and how to just keep them on the "high" setting....

Speaking of the SBR slim line fans, when I got mine I just threw it on in place of the stock fan and called it a day. Once the summer came around I realized that the fan was blowing air towards the front mount WTF , so now it is inbetween the intercooler and radiator blowing air through the radiator instead of blowing air against the wind.

I DID THE SAME EXACT THING! i was over heating like crazy then one day my friend stuck a leaf in front of the fan and it stuck to it. i switched the blades and now it doesnt over heat quite as bad...

You would think they would specify that somewhere, especially since the fans seem to work well in the stock location. I just had to suck it up and put it in front. I prefer this over switching the blades becasue it will see more airflow and be right there to push it on through, but thats just me.

You guys know you just reverse the polarity to change the fan from a pusher to a puller right?

I too am trying to deal with some cooling issues with my new FMIC although I have problems with the AC running. Using a new Mitsu 180 thermostat, a bottle of Water Wetter, about 70/30 water/coolant mix, and some ducting in the fog holes to force air around the FMIC I see about 196-199 temps with the AC off. With it on and depending on how much sitting I do I've seen 213-216. I'm going to try some redneck cowl induction by spacing the rear of the hood and if that doesn't help much I'm going to cut some vents in the bumper cover, Evo style so air can get directly to the radiator and condenser instead of having to go through the FMIC first.

your right where im at while driving with a/c off. i dont care to run the car with a/c on and im gonna pull the bi*** before too long anyways. try drilling a 1/2 hole in the thermostat and see if that lowers your coolant temps a little. do this right where the other hole is with the little metal piece hanging in it. also if your car isnt lowered too much try that little plate i made. i think it only sticks like 3" from the bottom of the car.

and yes i know i changed my fan from a pusher to a puller. is that gonna cause some problems?

i might give this a try when i remove my a/c just to give me a little more room in the engine bay...

Here mine, just finished it last night, was kind of in a hurry. I will end up putting a rubber lining aroudn the edges and painting this black. Excuse the dirtiness, the car just got done finished last night and I had no time to wash it.

shit dude I relaly wouldnt know, didnt put the logger on it, the engine got only 50 miles on it anyways.

Proper air flow is very important obviously Glad to see you guys are working on it. A lot of people forget that those stock shrouds really are effective and simply ripping them out and putting in slimline fans may not give the intended results when in traffic...

As for me, my temps never go over 83C, even on the local road course at full power on very hot days (No A/C anymore and I use a SMIC)

wish i could get a smic that can handle 600hp.....hahahaha

on my car a lower air dam would be gone in 20 seconds of pulling on the road..

are you saying it would get knocked off because it would have been blown off or because the roads are so crappy that it would have been broken off?

That air duct looks like ass.

to get mine down i made a custom hood too... and it defintly helped, not sure on actual numbers, but i took it off and sent it in to have it remade in CF, and put a stock hood back on for awhile... and i went from no problems, to overheating all the time... (pics in my profile)

i will aslo be making some ducting, and putting a fan in between the ic/radiator. and i may cut out the space between the headlights like an evo too.. just to make extra sure!


btw... i want your oil cooler... is it a setrab? where did u get it??
