Once again, though this seems like a losing effort, I'm inviting the local DSMers out to another road course day at PMI. It will be on a Sunday, July 23rd. It's a NASA event once again, so the cost will cover driver instructors. All are welcome to come out. I'll be out there getting my track time in the Eclipse. It would be nice to have some other DSMers come out and enjoy the track time. It'll be the last NASA event in the area, as the remaining event is scheduled for the new track in Nebraska.

Do we have anyone that will be able to make it out? Anyone at all? Please guys, help restore my faith in the DSM community out here. I keep telling the NASA guys that we really do have some hardcore DSMers out here who track their cars - they're beginning to think I'm full of shit. We haven't had one DSM make it out this year (for 3 events in CO) besides mine. There has to be at least one other serious DSMer out here who likes road courses.

:sneaky:

I'd love to go, but I hate chewing up tires.
I wouldn't mind to go watch, I've spent many times at the go kart track watching my buddy race. 1:1 cars would be interesting. Would I at least renew your faith with DSMer's if I just came to watch?

BTW, Chris we should have a little get together in Highlands Ranch sometime soon. Haven't seen you in a long time.

i'll be going down to do some work in the denver area for part of july, i might be interested... could you post a link or more info?
i haven't driven on a road course, so the instruction would be most welcome. i'm not too worried about my tires, they have a warranty (as long as they never find out i raced with them ;)).

I swear we will make it out there one day, and the 23rd sounds good. The Talon is finally running good, so we will probably be there. Still cannot believe we live right down the road from it (maybe 1 1/2 mile away), and have not met up with you yet.:sosad:

I could possibly be down for going and watching as I don't want to race my car until its 'ready' :rocks:

Grant, you should see my tires after 4 good days at the track, they're not nearly as chewed up as you might think. And I beat the hell out of them. Unless you're planning on running all out every lap, which isn't a good idea anyway, you shouldn't have to worry about chewing up your tires in one day. A new set of brake pads beforehand is a good idea though. (And yes, we do need to get together - I'm always around.)

And Greg, you won't be "racing" your car, you'll just be driving it fast. Too many people say that their car "isn't ready". If it's in good running condition, it's ready. This isn't like the drag strip where the whole point is to go and get a fast timeslip. In that case, if you know your car isn't ready to put down a fast time, why go? The idea is to go out and enjoy driving your car fast in a controlled environment, improve your skills, and have fun - something that you can't do on the street safely. You can drive as fast as you feel comfortable with and the car doesn't have to be "race-ready". I was just having this discussion yesterday with a friend who said they didn't want to take their car because the suspension is stock... so what! It's about learning how to drive your car at high speeds and improving your skills, and most importantly, having a good time. Get your car out to the track and THEN you'll see what it needs to be 'ready'. You can't know what it needs until you take it to the track first.

And if you guys came out to watch and get ride-alongs at the very least, that would be cool too. At least you'd see what it's all about. I just think there are too many misconceptions keeping people from going. Hopefully we'll have more people willing to go out to more track days next year. I just didn't expect to be the only DSMer out there at these events every time, it's pretty disappointing. I truly thought there were more hardcore DSMers out here in Colorado - instead, I'm surrounded by muscle cars and WRX's out at the tracks. Oh well.

Sounds like fun. Me and my brother might try to show up. Since your from Colorado you know Jack down off of Nevada, Chris. Runs his own dsm shop. He has a crazy fast GVR4 and used to track race all the time. Maybe ill get him to come down and see if he can get a better time than you, since your car is pretty bad ass.

Hey Chris, I'm not one of you FAST and FURIOUS guys, but I do have a Talon and I'm coming down for HPDE 1.

I'm just an N/T.:toobad: ,but I 've got the heart of you turbo freaks.:D

At least I shouldn't have to worry about breaking-hope,hope,hope.

Fred

P.S. Does that make 2 of us now?

Do they rent helmets out at these events?

I'd like to learn the limits of my car in a safe enviroment, but I've never tracked it before. It would also be cool to meet some people from this site and see their cars.

It runs great, what would I need to partipate in the event, (complete newb to organized road racing)?

Later,
Dana:talon:

Chris do most people haul their cars to these meets?

I probably will be driving my Talon. You know, "Run whatcha brung". So I was wondering what do people like me do w/all the "stuff" that they can't leave at home and can't race with?

How do they keep it secure?

Fred

Count me in as number 3! I am planning on heading up from northern New Mexico for this event with my GSX. I finally got my cooling under control enough to justify trying one of these events.

Fred, most all people who run in HPDE groups 1-3 drive their cars to the events. We just pack up the car with everything we need and unload it all at the track. You can leave all your stuff around your car - everyone tends to respect eachother out there. I've never had anything stolen at an event, and I don't know anyone who has either. I'm sure it's happened before but it's extremely rare. The nice thing is everyone tends to look out for eachother out there. Don't be afraid to bring tools and whatever else you need.

Awesome Chris! Can't wait to meet you guys out there.

Great! Thanks, Chris.

I will leave the kitchen sink home.:D

Do you know a good place (meaning fair and reasonable) to buy a helmet?

I live in Aurora. Smoky Hill and Chambers.

I'm getting my car inspected tomorow. What is the most lead time before a race that you can get your inspected so you don't have to do it at the track?

Sorry for all the questions. One more. I have an exhaust leak between the outlet of the cat and the connecting pipe. It is a little loud, but not much.
Will that have to be fixed before I can run?

Fred

I don't think exhaust leaks will prevent you from passing tech or running at the track. As for inspections, I got mine done the day before the event last time. Just call the shop who will be doing the inspection and make sure they have time to do it for you. I used MAC last time.

And for a helmet, I really don't know this area to well yet to give a good recommendation. I got my helmet at a motorcycle shop out in California. Most all new helmets will meet the required safety specs. You can probably get one for $100. Did Dave get back to you on the loner helmets?

I got my car inspected today at MAC and passed.

Seem to be good people.

No, Dave has not gotten back to me yet. I imagine he's pretty busy. If I don't here from him by email in a couple of days, I'll call him.

I'm really looking forward to this. I've never done this before.
Seems like it'll be a real kick.

Yea they are pretty cool. My brother got dynoed and tuned there. My other friend bought a turboxs EMS through them for his WRX and they price matched internet prices. Also installed it for free, did cost 1k so they wanted the sale. With just turboxs exhaust, intake and EMS they got it to lay down 230whp. Not bad at 16psi with no fuel mods.

Ludachris, I can't go even to watch. Have to work now 7 days a week. But my job is to deliver new Porsche's to rich people in Colorado. :D Maybe I could sneak a new 997 Turbo to the track.

Landlord showed up a day early to discuss buying the house, so we are trying our arses off to make it now :D. We do have a pretty good tranny leak so we wont be able to run, but we "should" be able to get out and meet some of you.
Mike

Well we did not make it out until about noon, but it was nice to get out and meet Chris and Fred out there. Did not get to play do to the tranny leak we still have, but watching was definately enough to motivate me to fix that problem now. HELL of a run chris, I dont know if there was anyone who could take you in the strait away. We hope to be completely ready the next time everyone is in town, but as you said, it would be nice to get more DSM's out there too. :thumb:
Mike
Hope you both have a safe trip home.

I had an awsome time today thanks Chris! I was just waiting to see if you could take the EVO too :p I am going to do whatever I can to get the talon ready for at least driving the road coarse like Fred did so that I can get a feel for it. One other thing that is going to light a fire under my a** to get it ready is that none of the drivers were women:sneaky: would be cool as hell to be the only one! Let me know next time you guys are coming down and we will throw together a bbq at my house and we can all ride out to the track together;) oh and Mike had to mention that you wouldn't belive what a couple pounds of steak in your belly can do for your traction:D
:talon:
Julia

Don't forget guys. Chris is on pump gas still. We haven't even begun to get crazy. Let alone retune with the new manifold and stuff.

Steven

It was really excellent to meet you, Mike and you Julia. I didn't get to meet your children, but they looked like awesome children.:)

I'm already looking forward to those steaks! With a couple more pounds down low that should help by lowering my center of gravity.:D

Mike and Julia ya gotta get out there next year! It is exhilirating!!

Chris, I realy liked your fireworks display Sat. night, but couldn't you get them a little higher so some people in Pueblo could enjoy them.:D

That was thrilling to watch you closing the gap on the Vette and the WRX on the back striaght before you gottem both in the turn. I bet they were surprised!
