I just wanted to throw this up here and I'm not sure if there's another post elsewhere. Mods feel free to move or even delete if so.

I'd like to say what an outstanding race car driver the motorsports world has lost.

He was great to be around.....always eager to talk with us in the pits.....an all around great guy. There are other drivers I look up to that wouldn't give me or anyone the time of day.

He should be remembered as a champion on the track, but, equally as important, off the track as well.

Thanks for the great racing Dan.....see you on the other side....

That's nice to hear Phil.:) That's what I've been hearing about him. I have watched him race, but I never really got to know him. He will be missed for sure!

I had the pleasure of meeting him just before his 500 win. Great guy, gave my lil brother his hat, took pictures, just an awesome happy individual. Rip dan. Burning rubber on that track in the sky

Thanks man.....everything you're hearing is the truth. My wife had met him several times as he was her #1 racer. I met him in Daytona in 2007 when we went down for the Rolex 24. Then got bonus time with the Indycar drivers during a Tuesday practice session following the Rolex. They are all great guys....Kanaan, Meira, etc. Dan just had a huge sparkle in his eye and was someone that truly was enjoying life to the fullest. We've got great pics from that weekend that we can reflect on. But, it only makes it harder.

And, then, yesterday, Marco Simoncelli in Moto GP. I could not believe it.

As much as we all love motorsports more than anything.....it's these times that put in perspective just how dangerous it is, and how courageous these guys/gals are for being out there in that zone.

And, that is why Dan Wheldon was a cut above the rest.

He was electric.

He was a magnet in the Indycar world.....
