It's been a while since I've been active on this board, but I've recently decided to stop dreaming of racing and start doing something about it!

I want to focus maninly on road racing (SCCA Club?), with Autocross to fill in the gaps (SCCA solo?).

Considering my car is basically stock, it's not hard to fit into Street Prep.

But my perusal of the 2010 GCR leaves me a bit confused on classing for club racing. It sounds like Production level 2 (or 1) is a good fit, but I don't see the Eclipse listed under any of the classes. I can find it listed under Improved Touring A, but I am trying to find a Club Race classing that has a close Solo analog so I can work with one build.

Any ideas?

It's been a little while since I had the most up to date GCR in front of me but last I was in there, turbo cars are not allowed in IT except for the catch all classes like ITE or SP (Super Production). If the car is non turbo it's likely in ITA. I think for autocross you can run ESP and maybe STX?

Really really depends on how modded you are. May want to mod for STX (I beleive that would be the best SCCA classing for a gsx), and then either Time Trial with NASA or do a PT or ST class wether you want to do wheel to wheel racing or just slowly get into road racing with HPDEs and Time Trials with NASA.

Thanks for the replies guys. My car is basically stock now, and I wanted to figure out all this classing before I started buying lots of parts that wouldn't be legal :ohdamn:

You are 10 steps ahead of me when I started.

I really have looked into the rules for my friend. And STX seems like a somewhat competitive class for a DSM. Youll hvae a hard time with RX8s and non-M bmws but its better than being stuck with Evos and Stis.

Re-reading the ST rules, it sounds like I could easily fit in there if I took the MBC out. And since the level of mods in my car is nil, it would probably be easier to run there than try to run in SP. Still trying to figure out where to aim for in Club Racing. And I have to look at the NASA guidelines as well.

One last thing - I keep seeing it mentioned - what is HPDE?

Thanks! I'm excited to get into this, but I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row, as it were, before I show up.

Club racing with NASA you can do either Time Trials or Performance Touring. Time Trials is for time, performance touring is wheel to wheel racing.

I came up with an awesome TTD and TTE setups for a 2g gsx if you ever decide to go that route.
