Short video of a tuning laps.

Hello Mitsubish brothers! Some of you may remember me as part of Rich Merritt's crew from the last few years. Well, without the constant wrenching on Rich's old One Lap of America DSM I had a bit of free time to work a car of my own for a change.

First time I've been on track in two years, several changes to the car as well since last it was on the road the 3/S NG06. New to the car is a manual rack, twin GT28RS turbos, a FIA style cage, R888's, lexan windows, AiM dash.

Took a couple slow laps around MAM (Mid America Motorplex) with Mike W. tuning in the passenger seat as this was the first time running E85. The turbos would cut out at anything over ~50% TPS.

As it is so hard to tune in-car on the road course, I did a two 2nd to 5th pulls down the drag strip to get the map closer in the ballpark for the track.... unfortunately I blew out a gasket I had made for my homemade idle speed control during these pulls, which ended the day for me.

The camera isn't quite mounted solidly yet. There's some modification that needs to be done to the camera mount bracket to secure it on the roll cage. You will see a few gliches in the graphics because of this.

So first of all, I think you need to go into full disclosure on the vehicle. I want pics, mods, pics, and more pics

But seriously, what all does that beast have done to it? and who are you planning on racing with/what class?

and when can I drive it?!?

Sounds like a pretty productive day other than the gasket blowing and no more than 50% on the turbos in the begining. I'd like to see some more footage when you get everything dialed in. Good Luck

I plan on campaigning the car in the NASA Time Trials... probably TTR or TTR depending on the final hp/weight ratio. I would also l am hoping to run a few SORC/Silver State classic style events. Currently trying to put together all the pieces to run One Lap next year.

My goals are 2800 lbs with 600 HP. That being said I have yet to weigh the car or get it on a dyno.

Initial dyno run will be at the All Mitsu Cookout in the Rogers, MN in a few weeks.

looks like your suspension is a little to stiff. Either that or MAM must have giant dips in the track.

Any pictures of the inside?

And what are you planning as far as a dash goes. Are you just mouting the AIM dash above the steering wheel, or are you mounting some other gauges and such. Does the AEM work well with the AIM? I was looking into some digital dashes versus the way I went an just wasn't sure I could get them to work directly with the AEM to do everything I wanted.

Should be a beast. and I thought my car would be fast

Nice work, Jon! I'm totally feeling the green cage but if I did that now, it'd seem like I was copying you. You guys coming around here this season?

Yeah, the cars is a little stiff seam welded, bajillion point cage, solid bushings all over.

Just a fabricated mount for the AiM dash mounted to the steering column. The Aim works great with the AEM EMS. Everything the AEM EMS see you can send directly to the AiM dash... all over one wire! Super easy.

In the first pic, you can see the AiM dash to PC download cable. Picture was had to take due to the head bolsters on my hans seats. If you look carefully you can see the AEM mounting under the dash bar on the passengers side.

Second pic is a head on shot of the dash taken from the driver's perspective. The shadows are from the big ass camera flash and the steering wheel.

Here's the AiM Dash installed in the car in it's custom hood. This time the dash is connected to the AEM and displaying data from it. If you watch in high definition you can read the display....

I had the shift lights set at 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, and 5k just for the video.

Jim, No SpeedSeekers at RA this October is like missing Christmas.... Getting married in ummmm... errr... 4 weeks... probably not going to see alot of track time this year, and definitly no Road America this year. Hope all is well with on your end... been a while since I saw Black Car. I assume you are going to RA in the spring? I'll be there 100% sure.

EDIT: Dude if I beg and plead would you make me some tublar LCA's?

Mid american series has a race weekend at RA that they run with the american cancer walk, entry last year was less than $60 if you register more than a week ahead of time. total track time is same as one day of nasa or mfba. Any car with a cage IS welcome for sure, if you dont have a cage I dont think your car would be allowed to run. anybody thats interested in running that day let me know and ill post the registration form when it becomes available.

I'm definitly interested. Perhaps make a new post here on DSM tuners?

By the way, one thing I forgot to mention with the AiM Dash and the AEM EMS is that if you are doing tuning real time with a lap top the AEM EMS can support either the laptop or the AiM dash, but not both at once. In the track video in my first post in this thread I am actually driving with no gauges as my good friend Mike is in the passenger seat with the laptop tuning on the track.... nothing like going into a corner with a pretty much a new car and not knowing how fast you are really going!

My plan as it looks right now is, yes I'll have blackcar at R.A. in spring.

I think I can expedite some LCA's, maybe I can acquire one as a pattern from our mutual 3000 friend. I'll ask at the next grill out event.
