Here are some pics from the NASA event held at Autobahn In Joliet, Illinois on July 21-22 07 There were no other GTO's out there but me. We had good weather and met up with a few old friends. The GTO pushed alott in the tight corners but we had fun. Hey Slow old poop, I believe we were just a few slots down from you in the pits. What happened? Why was the car locked up?

I have yet to attend an autobahn event this year. hopefully next year I can make it at least once.

We put the 17x10 CCWs with new 275 Hoosiers on without the 10mm spacers, and when I went to move it, the wheels locked against the rear arms, bent the wheel studs, and we were done for the day. Sheer stupidity.

Prior to that, the wastegate locked up at 15 psi boost (down from 23). We THINK it's because the set screws holding the wastegate internals came loose. In any case, we took the wastegate apart, and it had no internal setscrews any more. We fixed that this weekend, but have yet to start it up to see if it's fixed.

Saturday was perfect, no mechanical problems at all.

Sunday started off with a broken wire on the starter, which put paid to the first session.

Went out for the second session, felt the boost go away and settle in at 15 psi. Everybody I passed wound up passing me back. That's what happens, I guess, when you go down 8 psi (120 hp).

Got the new Hoosiers mounted so we could scrub them in, and locked up the rear wheels. So I got in one session on Sunday.

*sigh* It's always something.

Sure wish I knew what that oil smoke was. This pic was at the end of the front straight, after braking from 120 or so. I am not consuming oil, nor am I spraying any following cars. Those wheels are 10x17 CCWs with old, tired 275 Kumhos mounted.

The corner worker at turn 1 called in tire rub on the left front, but we found no evidence of it. It's certainly possible that it's tire rub, but we can't figure out where it might be. Them 17x275s be some BIG tires!

If it was oil from another car, then everybody would be smoking there. I wuz the only one.

No that's not tire smoke. I was behind you for awhile and had to back down because I was afraid you were dripping oil as well as burning it. That is oil smoke coming from your exhaust. Maybe that's why we didn't have mosquitoes at Autobahn.

From under, so maybe an exhaust leak but it was def oil smoke, I could smell it.

That's a relief! Oil leaks we can deal with. Thanks. The transfer case was seeping out the top breather, and the turbo line was leaking at both ends. Parts are on order to fix both. Hope that does it.
