Hi, I have a 92 TAlon AWD and i am having some problems keeping the car idleing after it has warmed up. The car will ilde steady (high like 1500) when it is cold and when the temp meter gets past like 1/4 mark it has trouble running..if im driving and put it in neutral it will stall if i dont tap the gas and its worse when im running more electrics (head lights, fan, applying the brakes) im not really sure what this is, i havent got the tools here at school (western Mich if any local help availble) to run a leak test. but what other things could it be, my pocketlogger is also showing error 42, i think that is fuel pump but im not 100% sure about that, info on that would be great. oh i also every now and then my TP will be like 100% on my AFC and Datalogger and i wont even be on the gas it likes to fulcuate like that sometimes it will be in the 80%'s and just jumply around, and sometime is will be completly normal. any advice on any of my problems would be great..thanks Guys

Well to aide you just a bit, the error code is your fuel pump.

I'm not sure about the other problems, but it could definitely be cause by the fuel pump.

When was the last time you've had the fuel filter cleaned?

Was your problem fixed? I have a very similar problem w/ my 1992 Eclipse GSX. I have a new alternator/battery, same problem.

the problem has not been fixed yet, my fuel filter was changed a couple summers ago, im not sure how long they can go so if you think thats to long than i can try to change that.

It might help. It also may be your fuel pump going. I would tell your mechanic to replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pump while he's down there.

And I don't think it is an alternator or battery problem. That would cause another error code and it doesn't appear that you are getting that one (but it wouldn't hurt to check it anyway, you never know).

And just for giggles, check your air filter too.

CMF

umm well 1 thing, the fuel filter is nowhere near the fuel pump, at one point when i had my car i attempted to replace the fuel pump but couldnt get to it because the lines near the harness are rusted to much and i was afraid to snap a line and have to buy a new harness also..and another point i dont have a mechanic i do my own work, i am also a mechanic at midas, but am not home to work on it. but i will keep all suggestions in mind and check them when i get the opportunity..thanks guys

Check all your vacuum lines running near the intake manifold, especially the BOV line. Check your BISS's O-ring for degradation. Check your Idle Speed Controller's resitance as well.

;;flipping through Chilton Manual;; You are absolutely correct, I apologize. I have never had to change the fuel filter or fuel pump in my Talon and I had assumed it was like my father's Mustang where the filter is located (in the fuel tank). I'll make sure to check my facts better next time I post.

And you and I are similar in the fact that we do our own work on our cars. I tend to only use my mechanic when it is too cold to work on the car outside, or I am way too busy and I just need it fixed.

Anyway, another thing that I had just thought of is to check your actual fuel lines to see if they are clear. A clogged fuel line may cause the fuel pump to go funky and could cause the car to stall.

CMF

(P.S. sorry I didn't respond sooner, been busy with College stuff.)

My first guess would be your ISC. Pull your throttle body off and check the resistance of the ISC, as sugested. If it's not that, swap out your ecu. When did you start to notice the problem? When you first noticed it happen, any particular thing you remember?
