Steering Wheel Off Center

My steering wheel is off center and i want to fix it, but i dont want to mess up my steering wheel by taking the horn cover off the wrong way, can anyone tell me how to do this properly. I have a 1990 1g thanks

Need some history!!!... Has the wheel always been that way, or has it slowly become off-center? Since a little elf did not sneak into your car in the middle of the night and unbolt your steering wheel and twist it, you probably need a front-end alignment!

the steering doesnt pull either way its perfectly straight.... but the wheel isnt centered... all i want to know is how to take the horn cover off without damaging the steering wheel... thanks

There's one screw on the back of the steering wheel, then the horn cover slides up.

The correct way to center the steering wheel is by adjusting the tie rods.

Hows this for off-center

Removed the steering column, removed steering wheel from it, and replaced the tie rod ends. Now my steering wheel is way the hell off center, I'm poor and cant afford anything not even an alignment so its in the garage. Oh ya and the fricking centerpiece on my steering wheel wont fit it place Frick Me!

Your steering wheel is straight when your steering box is centered, even if the wheels are not in a straight line. "Adjusting" the steering wheel to match [so car goes in a straight line] is NOT the right way to do it. The wheels must be re-aligned so that the steering box is centered when the car goes straight. The only reason for repositioning the steering wheel is if it was once removed and not put back on correctly... period.
Please don't just put a band-aid over the problem.
