Ok I have seen alot of lifter tapping issues lately (probably due to the cold weather and oil being like mud.)

First off there are no mods on the car yet so I don't have to worry about that. (for the moment, mods coming in spring)

This problem isn't one of those. When cold starting I am talking below 10°F. My car is making a very loud howl from the drivers side and a major ticking also. The other symptom is the clutch being extemely stiff and the shfter is the same.(probably attributed to the temp outside).

After the car warms up it goes away. The noise and the fact that everything is stiff. Also like I stated above, if it is above feezing it doesn't have the problem. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this on extreme climate changes and what it might be... I have been under the car when it is happening and it is very hard to place where it is coming from even with a scope.

Thanks in advance just throwing it out there to see if I am just lucky...

It's not quite a howling sound, but my car has always made a very loud "gear-ish" sound when starting, even if it's just slightly chilly.

But, it's done that forever, and nothing's broken yet, so I'm calling it normal.

When it starts, it almost sounds like some kind of weird turbine/rotary thing.

That would be what it sounds like. Actually it sounds like the a power stearing pump with really thick oil trying to turn. (If that makes any sense). I guess I am not to concerned about it but really wondering what it might be....

Thanks for the reply...

All of your acc. are on the drivers side. Try removing each belt until the noise stops. Then you know where the problem is and can go from there. If it's none of the accessories(alternator, power steering, AC) Check your timing belt to see if it's rubbing on the timing cover

I will be checking the belts tomorow. I can't do it after the car is warm because it doens't happen so the waiting game begins. I won't be able to get to the timingbelt untill the weekend (Damn cold at night)... Thanks for the suggestions will let all know what I come up with.

On a second note do you think a weak tensioner on the Tbelt could cause a howl like that? Fortunately I have all the pulleys and tensioner from the last DSM I had so if that is the problem no cake to fix it.. Either way will let all know what is up...

Thanks again...
