First of all I just want to say this isnt my first headgasket install, I have done 3 or 4 in the past and have had no problems at all on other turbo dsm's. But anyway I blew my headgasket about a week ago so I went out and got a Mitsubishi Metal one and installed it, I did it by the book went and got the head checked and milled and followed all torque specs etc etc. Anyway so I finally finished it up tonight and go to start it and it just cranks. I check fuel, I have fuel. I check spark and Im getting spark. So I do a compression test, and I get 0 compression in all cylinders, the needle didnt even jump, the gauge is working though because I tried it on my friends car after all this. What could it be???

Well like I said the Gauge is fine, it read on my Buddys car after I tried it on mine. And wouldnt a horrible timing mixup bend valves and give off a horrible sound when cranking? because it sounds like normal cranking.

I just remembered, I forgot to squeeze the oil out of the lifters, so right now they are all hard as hell, thats probably it, the valves or atleast one valve per cylinder is being held open because of this and boom no compression. Im gonna go pull all the lifters out and collapse them and re-install them and see what happens.

Hey I was wonderin what kind of noise would you hear when cranking the engine? does it sound like the bottom end is spinning but the top isnt somewhat of a grind?

it just sounds like the normal cranking sound but with no firing whatsoever.

I found out the reason it wasnt firing was because a couple of the lifters were holding a few valves open thus giving me 0 compression. So I pulled all the lifters out, bleed the oil out of them in a vice then re-installed them and the car started right up. Thanks for all your help guys.
