car just shut off, one time thing

i was driving down a side road tonight, winding out the gears to about 4500-5000 but quickly, i put it 4th gear and decided to slow down at around the same time and the car just shut off on me. it did not bog or anything, the engine just shut off and i only noticed cause i lost my power steering and the brake pedal sunk to the floor. i popped it into neutral, pushed down the clutch, turned the key and the car started just fine. i stopped the car and then put it in first and drove away fine. this is the first time this has happened to me, and a friend of mine says it has happened to him before in his audi once. is it something to worry about? should i do something about it?

HI remember me .Talk to good mechanik,sounds to me like fuel presure problem.My camry does same shit.I drive and I slow down almoust stoping at trafic light and the car shuts off just like that.In my case the reason is bad fuel pump and when the pump gets warm it stop working and then it needs time to cool off and then it works again.Some times it stop and I turn on again with out waiting just like it hapened to you.Some times it does it often some times doesnt do it for like a month.Ain't that a bich

thanks for the reply, but i doubt its a problem with the fuel system... my friend pointed out that im bad at driving stick and might not have given it gas when going into 4th since i was going to slow down, which may stall the car or at least cut the engine. does that sound right?

sure but that means that after u shifted at 4th gear ur foot wasnt on the gas pedal at all,and also u must have been driving with very low speed in order for this to happened.because if u shift to 4th gear and u been driving with 25-up miles it shouldnt stall.When I drive my car on 4th gear I can let it go downt to like 20mph and it still runing fine but if i go under 1500RPM it ll eventualy shut off.So u decid what have u done that night.But from what I was reading,you was going over 5000RPMs and if u shift from 3th to 4th at 5000 RPMs u dont even have to give it a gas cuz this RPM are high enough.With 5000 RPMs on 3th u should be going with about 50mph wich is more then enough to shift from 3th to 4th.
But if u shifted from 3th to 4th and instead of pushing gas u let gas off and hit brakes then yea rpms will drop hard and the car will most likely shut off.

that sounds like what happened. i didnt even notice the thing shut off, and at first i thought my battery failed or something cause my battery light was on, but then i realized all my other lights were on as well, so that must have been what happened. ill post here again if this problem occurs again.
