ive noticed recently that theres a ticking or something coming from what sounds like the cam gears, but it only happens every now and then. it seems to get louder when theres less gas in the tank, but that might just be me. i just got gas a few minutes ago and it went away. i know about the lifters ticking and its not that.

90% chance it's the lifters... 10% chance it's a valve... you can upgrade lifters to 2g 99 lifters... these have seemed to remedy the ticking problem... or you can just live with it... or if you can have your car down for a couple days and you're handy with a wrench... you could soak the lifters in diesel fuel and run a pin through the oil passage on the top of the lifter... this should loosen up the gunk in there... it's all up to you!!

you should be able to find detailed instructions if you do a search on dsm.org, vfaq...or possibly here for lifter tick...

best of luck..
