So here's the deal.. when the car (1990 tsi awd) goes into higher rpms, smoke comes outta hood and fills the car as well.. usually only happens when rpms stay high or are happening often.. checked valve cover and valve cover gasket, turns out nothing outta there... then i checked my dipstick.. it wasnt put in all the way so i thiought maybe it was out of there... but thats not sealing right... the dipstick is bent so i did a temp fix and duct taped it down to seal it right.. went for a drive.. seemed alright but then i hit higher rpms and smoke poured out everywhere and i open the hood and oil is all over again- burning off.... what do u think this could be.... most of the oil i see burning is off the turbo's heat shield around the dipstick area.... let me know please...

you can see the duct tape temp fix... as well as no leaks from the vlave cover and none on the duct tape after the drive clarifying thats its not from there.... a little oil under right side of valve cover but the whole engine is pretty greasy in general

Looks like the oil fill cap has a leak but I would replace the rubber oil lines going to the oil cooler. If it a 90, it should have the external oil cooler that have oil transfer lines. It coul be possible that one of the lines might have a pinhole but not leaking until it sees high oil pressure at higher rpm's. Just a thought, hope it helps.

mine does this extensively. once i reach high rpms/loads, oil shoots out from the dipstick and looks like a little comes through the cap. whats the 710 cap? bigger size? will replacing the rubber gasket? on the dipstick fix this problem? also my oil gauge always reads high and never in normal ranges <stock gauge>. any help is appreciated.

You'll need a new dipstick - we all do...

99 cents for the Oil Cap Gasket at Mitsu.

Heat just kills ALL rubber on these things.

Make sure you PCV Valve is good & hose unkinked.

I'd check your electrical connections at the Gauge Sending Unit on your Oil Filter Housing - also could be a stuck Oil Pressure Relief valve or MAYBE even a stuck Low Oil Temp Oil Cooler Cutoff Valve - both also in your OFE. I take it you are running a reccomended Multi-Weight Oil.

well i was using mobil 1 full synthetik when i bought the car in march of 03 not knowing what was used before. however, as of early this year i switched to mineral using what i always do...5w-30 valvaline. max life or just the typical. ill use mobil 1 filter or sometimes fram if thats not available. ive heard a few knowledgeable people say that with hi-po cars you just have to deal with it b/c its designed that way for high reving. anyways, this car is collecting some mileage now...127k or so. i need to change plugs wires cap and rotor still. i did have someone look at the car at a shop and they said something about my oil filter housing leaking. i dunno, ill go ahead and get new rubber though. those sensors i dont know how to check. thx for the help!
