Ok, whenever I accelerate kinda hard, it doesn't sound like the turbo is spooling like it used to. It takes almost full throttle to get the spool up sound, otherwise it just sounds like I'm taking in empty air. I don't really know how to explain it, it just sounds weak basically. I checked inside the turbo, and there was a somewhat decent amount of oil. I am also burning oil and smoking out my exhaust, and I am wondering if this could be a symptom of a bad turbo? Thanks for the help.

u need a boost gauge.

Keep an eye on the boost gauge and tach and see what rpm your turbo starts to spool up. I didn't check your mods, so i don't know what turbo you are running, but the bigger, the more lag. My Evo III 16G is at full boost around 3200-3800 rpm. If your still on the T-25, it will be less, more like 2800 i believe. Also by watching the boost gauge this will tell you what psi you are getting out of your turbo. If the turbo is not spinning, your little needle will not be at where it is supposed to be. Also, if you have already checked the turbo, and I hope you checked it for shaft play too, if it was not bad, then maybe your fillter is way too funky, it needs replaced or something is blocking the air inlet to the turbo. It could be any number of things, but just KISS (keep it simple stupid) for now. If the turbo is bad, get it replaced you do not want to send metallic deposits into your intake and into your cylinders.

Later bro, good luck with it

I've got a boost gauge, and it pegs out at around 14 PSI. I am still on the T-25, and my filter is new. Maybe I'm just thinking something is wrong when it's really not. I'm paranoid

If you are blowing smoke out your exhaust all the time and there is oil in the exhaust side then more than likely it is your turbo, have you checked for shaft play in it? Try that first and go from there.

Sorry to thread jack but how and what exactly is checking for shaft play as I'm having problems and taking stuff apart tomorrow so I can do that as well

shaftplay is in reference to the turbine shaft inside your turbo.

you can check it somewhat by removing your intake pipe from the turbo and stick your finger in there as far as you can to try and reach the center shaft where the turbine is connected. you just try to wiggle the shaft and see if it moves. side to side. circle motions. Try to even push the turbine towards the drivers side of the car then pull it back torwards the pass side of the car. Sometimes you wont' have any wiggle or wobble, but it will be sliding in and out. Hope this wasn't too confusing.

If you will have it off, it will be a lot easier. Check on the forums, there was a mpg file of a guy holding is turbo that had sever shaft play and he was showing what it looked like.

later bro
