I am having yet another freakin problem.

The other day, I was going for a little test run in my car and everything was fine for about a mile, then I started losing power, you know...lights dimming, losing spark, all that until it died. I figured it might be the terminals, b/c they were loose and all corroded and crap.

Tried new terminal clamps, charged the batt. and went out again today. Got almost 3/4 mile away and it did the same thing. I dont know what the problem is, the battery was fine last week when I drove the car last, and the alternator is brand new.

Check that there is power to the B+ lead to the Alt, that's the big lead that carries the power to the battery. Check the large fusable link over by the ail cleaner labeled Auto Choke ... . This came up yesterday in another thread and I don't know what the value is ... 80, 100, or 120.

Let us know what you find.

Cheers,
GTM

I found the problem. The Alternator fuse was blown. I am going to try replacing that and see what happens

If you don't have a charger and depending on the system to bring the battery up take it easy for at least an hour of running. Preferably don't use anything else until you get a decent charge in the battery. More than likely the corroded terminals arcing did the fuse in but keep your eye on it and if you can put a volt meter on the system so much the better also make sure the belt is properly adjusted.

I have a charger I'm gonna give the battery a good charge then let it idle for a pretty long time and keep a voltmeter on the battery to see if it is holding a charge or if its draining

is so, take voltidge readings off the battery while the car is running. with it running you should have around 14 volts. if you do not, and have 12 or less, your alternator is bad, or you have bad wiring in between.
