Car wont start, when it does it dies ?

I have been searching threads forever now, and cant seem to find similar problems with car starting related issues on a 2g, only I find threads on 1g.


I have 52k miles, 97 GST. Garaged kept every winter. Christmas break took the car out to install some parts.

3 weeks ago, installed new clutch master cylinder rebuild. Then install evo16g, walbro 255 & rewire. Then install 550cc, put back 450cc (stock) b/c I dont have my afc 2 yet, couldn't boost w/ 550.

With each mod I drove the car for a day or two and drove exaclty how is should drive.

So the last thing I messed with on my car was putting the 450cc back in. I drove it that whole day. The car drove fine. Only thing bothering me was the new fuel pump needed to be primed and took second start to turn over, but all good. Started fine.


Then recently getting cold, I am move the car out of the garage, starts up fine first time. But idles low and dies unless I give it gas and put it into gear. I back it out the driveway and the car dies. I start it up again and proceed to back it out.

Next morning car wont start. (real cold - 18F) I jump my car but no prevail. Volts on Optimum battey are 12.5-13volts. I try again today when its warmer in the day, Starts just barely(think of your car starting as weak as possible) then dies. Like I am not even sure it started because the rpms didnt even have a chance to rev. So I am basically not able to start the car, and if it does start it does stay on.



First things that come to mind are doing a compression test. My fuel pump is working, I hear the loud 255 start. I checked all fuses under hood and inside the car. Spark plugs are Ngks I changed out 2 years ago w/ wires(first mod). All sensors are connected aroud the throttle body and fuel rail. Just put in new radiator fluid week ago. Oil changed when I did turbo install couple weeks ago too. leakingy nothing. Might take out ECU, but usually isnt 2g related. Ordered new ngks though. Looking for another alternator since it probably is getting bad b/c my 2 12' subs have be power surging a bit between 12-13 volts. Dont give me that bullshit crankwalk story. (tired of hearing it, I am saving money dont worry)
I am stumped what I should do first????????Or change out???

Be nice if some 2g masters could tell what is with my 4g63 to get it running again.

Here is an engine pic of my car like a day before my car wouldn't start. The coolant resevoir is back the car and filled with coolant that the pic doesnt show. I put the coolant resevoir right by the bov. The other can is a OBX oil catch can.

2g turbo install kit (j pipe)
3inch Dp mandrel bent - straight pipe
3inch exhaust
NGK plugs and wires
Dejon UIP & S pipe
Dejon Inake & filter
1g bov

free mods
valve cover gasket changed
BSC restrictor removed

boost gauge
A/F gauge
volt gauge
have egt gauge not installed
ported 2g housing not installed
550cc PTE not installed

Things need to do -
Thermostat replacement
redo valve cover gasket - valve cover has hairline crack in spark plug resevoir
timing belt change

Fixes To My Problem

ECU replacement or caps
Alternator
Compression Check
Starter? (it clicking over)

Fuel Pump 0-Ring ( I hear fuel pump working, car smells like fuel inside after trying to start 2-3 times)

Spark Plugs (2 yrs old, clean inside resevoir)
New Battery (doubting, got a jump still no help)
Fuses Under hood & Near Clutch Pedal (none blown)
Check all connections from Start and Alternator to Battery
Check Battery Connections
Check all Sensor Clips to make sure they are connected
No CEL on

MPI Relay?
Crank Angle Sensor?
Water in Fuel Tank?
Crankwalk??

Any other ideas??
 
I had the same problem as you and i had to adjust my BISS screw on the TB and after that all was well. YOu will need someone to sit in the car while this is being done so you can adjust your idle to were you want it. I have no idea why this happens but it is a common problem. You may soon get a CEL which is P140 or P1400 I forget which it is which is related to this somehow. The BISS screw may not be on you TB but it is by there and you will know what is is when you see it.

The same thing happened to my car a while back and since i adjusted the biss hasn't happened again. Also your suppose to ground your ECU when adjusting your BISS altho some don't do it...your choice i guess.
 
Same thing here, two days ago it got down to -10F and mine wouldnt start. Rather than adjusting the screw i just leaned the idle out on the AFR and that did the trick. So in my case i was too rich, so if your car is doing want mine did you need to turn idle down lower. Colder air makes it harder to atomize the fuel so it just floods its self, rather than creating combustion.
 
No, haven't figure whats with my car yet. I changed the spark plugs with NGKs. Check the resistance in the spark plug wires. Check the resistance on the coil pack. All checks out to be working.

I messed with the biss screw. I tighten the screw and then turned two revolutions loose but didn't seem to do anything.

The weird thing was when I put the new plugs the car shot out a ball of smoke from the exhaust. Also this has never happened, my dash lights come on in the on position. Usually u have to turn on your fogs for the dash lights to turn on. hmm... Check all my wiring, no wires are touching. So... I don't know.

Going to check my fuel pump o ring eventually here. or take it to Mitsu heh.
