Hey all, I just got a new (my first) 91 Talon Tsi.... and of course it needs some work to get to good operating condition..... 2 questions, if you guys could help!

1 - Idle.
The car idles really high. It was around 2000, i fixed the TPS which wasnt connecting and now its down to 1100-1200 but not perfect and the BISS is turned all the way in....I checked all the standard things, TPS, BISS adjust... I have a feeling its the ISC. I checked the resistance between the terminals on the ISC motor, the vfaq/manual says it should read 28-33 ohms between pins 1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6. Now i get about 30ohms on all pins, EXCEPT 5-6, i get a really high reading like onver 120ohms....so Im guessing that coil is bad in the ISC and needs replaced. TB was just cleaned...so im guessing ISC is bad Is this correct? I can get one for an ok price so at least thats a relief if i need it...

2 - Missing hoses on the TB?????
i wish i had a digital camera....but anyways. On the TB, on the bottom facing the front of the car there are two areas/ports where it looks like coolant hoses should be running to the TB but on mine there is nothing connected....I have a feeling there should be 2 hoses going there....should there be? and where the heck are they?? haha....i cant find any loose hoses....

Thanks so much for any help!

Oh yeah, one more thing hah....I bought a manual for the DSM but it kinda sucks haha...... anyone reccomend those Helm service manuals, $90 tho....if its worth it i'd buy it, ..these Haynes manuals dont seem to go into enough detail..like i cant find where those 2 "missing hoses" are..

1. ISC yes, sounds like its bad. I have one for 85 shipped 28ohm across the board

2. You are right, the coolant lines should run down into the water pipes, the only reason it should be dosconnected, is if the FIAV is blocked, which is highly doubtful. I dont have a way to get apic, but see if there is any dangling lines there that should be connected, its possible the TB was taken off, and just not replaced, but if that was the case, all your coolant woudl pump out onto the ground, Id say for some reason they blocked it.

mabye talk to the origional guy and see if the fiav was blocked, if not, mabye should rerun the waterlines.

if im not mistaken you can remove the water lines from the TB and have the return and the intake line just go directly into each other, i saw this sumwhere....i think it was www.vfaq.com maybe not though. its supposed to unfreeze it or sumthing if it gets stuck or sumthing like that, sumthing to do with cold weather, yah know, cause thats hot water?. But if you can disconnect the water lines from the TB its "supposed" to make the air alittle colder=more HP since the hot water isnt heating up the TB. ill go look for where i found that now.....it was a while back, hope i can find it

My '90 talon is idling at 2000 and has an idle surge! The BISS is screwed completely in. I am replacing the gaskets on the throttle body and doing a pressure test today. Could the ISC cause it to idle that high?

A bad ISC usually results in a low idle, causing the engine to die. However, the BISS might have previously been adjusted in an attempted to prevent this. Check the resistances of the ISC coils to determine if one of the coils is bad. This just takes a few minutes and can be done with the ISC still on the car.
