Humming noise out the rear of car when driving 30+
I want to say its my wheel bearing but i am new to AWD. Anyone else experience this and what other ways will i know if it is a wheel bearing? I don't know if tires can actually be that loud when driving but on another car when the bearing went, it made a loud humming noise. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Does the rear end of the car shake and grind when you accelerate? How many miles on the transmission?

Well i found out that both of my rear tires need hub assemblies cause they are loose. They say it is a bolt on job which i take to mean i can do this myself but the parts are $175 a piece. Has this happened to anyone else yet and can i find these parts anywhere cheaper?

I'm not that familiar with 2G's...... are the bushings bad on the hub assemblies? Or is it a bearing? If it's a bearing, go to a buisness that sells Bearings. Pop your's out and take it with you, they;ll measure it and find one that fits exaclty. ALOT cheaper than going to the dealer. Or try an autoparts store for the bearing.

Sounds like your rear differential is shot. Does it get very bad on the highway? Like a drowning noise? My friend had this problem for a long time and drove with it for along time too, he ended up getting a OEM LSD. This is what i think your problem is.

both wheel assemblies are loose and on the 2g the bearing doesn't pop out per say. I found them for $120 a piece which seems to be the cheapest i can find.

I want to say yes but it is just as bad in the street. I am also getting a knocking noise while driving. Would the rear diff cause theses problems?

I have a very similar problem. When I drive at 30+ you hear a humming noise, and when I take a right hand curve it gets much worse.

i have the same problem Mine is at about 45 there is a humming noise. When i slow down like at 10mph to a full stop i can hear the humming noise get quiter. Its kinda like hearing the drive shaft spin and slowing down as you do, but when i give my car gas the sound it gone. I also get like a rubbing noise when i stay at one speed like if i keep it at 35 or 25 but if i let off the gas the noise is gone or if i give it gas the noise is gone In the next 2 weeks i am going to take my 4 bolt rear out and put in another 4 bolt rear to see if that is the problem
